Snipers always felt more Heavy weapons-like than Special, much like their original idea back when it was a Heavy weapon. I feel more bad for Fusion Rifles because it now has to compete with even more weapons, like it wasn't outclassed already...

I've always though fusions should fill the niche of taking down shields or shutting down supers instead of being longer ranged shotguns. I wish they had handcannons in the special spot that way they could actually be "HAND CANNONS" as in high power but limited ammo and what not. Which they can't really be when their confined to the primary slot.

A sniper is actually a primary weapon. Only Destiny ever treated it as anything else! You are likely thinking of the 2 mile range high caliber rifles armies use. Those are heavy weapons in the literal sense! They also take ages to even set up let alone fire accurately
