I'm getting Destiny 2 but i can't say i don't feel Betrayed

I put countless hours into D1 thinking my progression would carry over to the sequal like many other only to learn that it wont, at first i was upset then after seeing how homecoming begins i was cool w it, weave it into the story w the towers destruction ok cool, then yal go ahead and announce that grimoire is gone. To recap no weapons, no armor, no emblems, shaders, etc, and now no grimmoire score that showed the total accumulation of every tiny little activity harking back to day -blam!-ing 1 of my destiny journey. Why even have something like year 1 moments of triumph or the old guard shader if i'm going to be put on the same goddam level as every other new player venturing into destiny for the first time w this sequal. This kind of oversight from you guys, a developer that interacts with its community more than most is insane too me. And honestly like the title says i feel betrayed. When you announce destiny at e3 and tout it as an adventure thats going to evolve w you over the next 10 years maybe drop a hint that your going to wipe the -blam!-ing slate clean w your # sequals. Woulda saved me a whole lot of -blam!-ing time. Edit: For all the comments saying "you feel betrayed but your buying d2 wtf blah blah" let me just make it clear that i'm not crying myself to sleep over this or anything crazy, yal are taking it wayyyyy to far, me being upset at false advertising has nothing to do with the fact that destiny has really fun gameplay and i've enjoyed all the content thus far, also never did i say i wanted the lore to be in the grimmoire i simply wanted something in d2 too show off the fact that i'm a day 1 beta destiny 1 guardian whose done just about everything because the way the years of triumph were explained and the way d1 was marketed at e3 thats how it was alluded to be

For me, the analogy is that famous 'Peanuts' comic strip where Lucy convinces Charlie Brown to play football she volunteers hold the football steady for Charlie Brown, and right before he can kick the ball she moves it ( like she's always done in the past and like she'll continue to do in the future ) and Charlie Brown falls down on his ass. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=055wFyO6gag

  • All they heard was "But I'm getting it anyway." That's all they heard, so you know.

  • If you feel betrayed don't spend more money on a company that betrayed you! There are other games to spend money on.

  • If that is how you truly feel, why not put your money where your mouth is and stop playing? I only ask this because I'm a veteran player who grew frustrated with the direction the game was going in after TTK launched, and I ultimately made the decision to abstain from RoI. Bungie's got a chance to win me back as a consumer in D2, but things are admittedly pretty rocky right now. I'll wait to get my hands on the beta, and MAYBE after the game launches, I'll consider the quality of endgame loot before I make a final final decision on D2, but as it stands right now, I'm on the fence and leaning no.

    • If you truly feel wronged, put your money where your mouth is, show some conviction and walk away. If you tell a business how badly you were treated and keep coming back, they aren't going to take you seriously. I've worked with the general public for 20+ years and met alot of people who only complain yet keep coming back. Their complaints get filed in the trash bin.

    • Do what you feel is right. Ultimately I don't feel like Bungie did all this building up with old weapons to intentionally wipe all the progress when D2 came out. They originally said they wanted all progress to carry over to each new game for destiny that came out, and I think they honestly wanted to do that. The problem is in Vanilla destiny, there was a lot of stuff that was just blatantly poorly tuned in a lot of ways that they hadn't considered. I think that's why we originally saw no Gjallerhorn or Icebreaker in y/2/3 and they only really brought them back late in the game's cycle when I think they knew they weren't going to be brought forward again. They knew these weapons were strong or overpowered in some ways or break the game in ways they don't like, and only let them off the chain once more because it was a crowd-pleaser and not going to be an issue in Destiny 2. I also think that this revamp of the game's systems, the pvp, the weapon slots, the armor perks and stats, all of that was for the better health of the game in PvP and PvE. I'm not sure I entirely agree with all the changes as a consumer, but I can understand and see what their ultimate goal is with the balance of the new weapon slots and supers is. Unfortunately, all this adds up to leaving all of our old stuff behind to give the new stuff a chance. If it's really as big of an improvement as it APPEARS to be, currently, then I have no issue with this redesign. I won't be happy if all this work and growing pains and loss of loot and gear just leads to the same issues on september 8th, though. So for right now I'm going to expect the worst, hope for the best, and wait for the beta.

    • Same. 100 pct agree. Just the fact that my friends will play will be enough of a reason. We will struggle through the disappointment together. And to all the people that say don't throw money at it, many pre-ordered expecting a better game and got a preveiw of the same crap as last game (speaking more to PVP that is). All in all, bungie has only added NPCs giving side missions, eliminating orbit, and new created new areas to play(which is a no brainer for a new game). Ok they did include new stuff, but it all existed already like LFG and Public Event Finder. So we saw in D2 review the same peer to peer, more ammo restrictions, good by special weapons, and smaller fireteam sizes so the lag isn't as noticable. They have done basically shit in 3 years but want you to believe that is this somehow leaps and bounds better. And that they listened to the community. So you can pay to play this game AND still be upset they did not deliver on the improvements they so hinted at and hyped. Players have been playing, paying for AND bitching about D1 for 3 years. Stop posting responses acting like asking for improvements or showing disappointment means the poster needs to just not play. If that was the case, no one would be playing Destiny. 0 players. Every single one of you on this forum have complained about something in Destiny at one point or another.

    •
To recap no weapons, no armor, no emblems, shaders, etc, and now no grimmoire score that showed the total accumulation of every tiny little activity harking back to day -blam!-ing 1 of my destiny journey.
All of that was introduced in D1, intended for gameplay in D1, and logically should remain there. I don't know why everyone is so obsessed with taking things that were designed for a specific game to be carried over into a second one. If you were gonna have all the same crap you had before, you may as well just play the original game! If you stay at a job for 5 years and accumulate 3 weeks vacation, quit and start a new job, would you expect to take that vacation time to the next job? I mean, you earned it, right?!

        • I get what you're saying, and yea, it sucks that us D1 players won't have anything special from the D2 players. But, if I'm not mistaken, Bungie said in one of their weekly updates that Destiny Veterans who transfer a character over will get a special something. Most likely an emblem but hey, it's something.

One of the best bits of advice my father ever gave me was, "Never complain and then stay." What he meant was never rage about how intolerable a situation is...and then tolerate it. Either accept the things about it you can't change, and stop complaining....or recognize that they are unacceptable...and then leave. But to rage on about how horrible something is....and then stay in it....just makes you a nag. ...and no one listens to, or respects, nags. Because the nag teaches them that they don't have to. You've shown that you can be ignored, and there are no consequences. So you need to decide whether you're just whining because Destiny 2 isn't going to be your idea of a perfect game (No game is, or ever will be). Or if the game has gone in a direction that you truly find unacceptable. If its the latter...then walk away. I did that---twice---with The Division. It became clear that the game was spinning is wheels and that the devs weren't really interested in the game reaching its potential. So instead going to the Ubisoft forums and raging....I simply quit the game. Personally, I feel that Destiny 1 will never reach its full potential as an RPG....because of the limitations of last-gen hardware...and Bungie thinking it was designing the game for a shooter gamer audience. Destiny 2 is their chance to fix those mistakes.

          • Nah this is a good thing! Destiny 1 has been holding us back for ages. It was broken from the start and bungie have spent 3 years trying to fix a chocolate kettle. We need a new start, a new game. Bungie need to start from scratch and make a game they want and not have to deal with all the fan service and "overpowered" weapons, nerfs and players moaning. It's a chance to put that behind them and give us the best possible experience with their focus being solely on a new game! Progress never carries over in a sequel. It's a new game and people need to realise that, it's not DLC anymore it's a new GAME.

          • If you buy D2, despite feeling betrayed by Bungie, then I certainly don't feel sorry for any of your perceived loss. I'm not telling you what to do with your money, only that your statement - betrayal + blindly buying - makes no sense; and hurts all gamers.

            • Seriously....? You feel betrayed already YET you're going to go ahead and 'throw money at the screen'....... That comment pretty much takes any validity of your post and flushes it down the toilet. It's akin to me saying Dodge motors makes crappy transmissions that break down a lot, but I'm gonna go ahead and buy another one cuz I've owned one already...... Sheesh you make my head hurt.

            • Understand the thought process here, however you do tend to lose credibility when you say you are purchasing the next game, despite this feeling of betrayal. If you really felt that way, you would not even give them the money. Fact is you are just a bit more disappointed than anything else.

            • Yeah, the whole "your character is going to evolve with you throughout your 10 year Destiny journey" was super false advertising at this point. Bungie was my favorite studio until this game and the way they handled it.

              • Yeah the whole 10 year character progression bs really is a disappointment. It shows that activision is holding the reigns of bungie. They want money, plain and simple. Bungie couldn't cover the cost of the epic vision so they made a deal with a corporate beast to get it done. This is why destiny lost its original developers and the game turned into the "gem" it is now. Money talks in the gaming industry. And companies like activision don't care about story or vision, they want results in the form of dividends. Your dollar is your ballot, what's your vote?
