According to lore, Exos were once human. The fact that they (Exos) wear clothes is probably due to this fact.
-
1 ReplyCause I don't want to look at these every time I have an Exo on my fire team.

Societal Norms

It's the difference between sending a car with a gun into battle versus a tank. Just extra armor. Also, from a lore point of view it makes some sense why exos would want to wear clothes. They're the downloaded personalities of humans, so it makes sense that they'd retain some social constructs inherent in humans, like wanting to wear clothes.

1 Replyso their nuts and bolts aren't hanging out

To avoid rusting up?

Same reason they have faces.

There's an article on game informer
did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis The Wise? I thought not. It’s not a story the Jedi would tell you. It’s a Sith legend. Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise he could use the Force to influence the midichlorians to create life… He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying. The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful… the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. Ironic. He could save others from death, but not himself.
Because the armor pieces they wear that are like the armor pieces awoken and humans wear help protect them. For the non guardians, the exo strangers clothes are actually built in if you take a close look at her character design. Also, the same reason they have shape in places robots don't need shape. To make the transition from human to exo easier. Its probably just habit from when exos were human.

It just feels right

The grimoire says that they're not aware of being Exo (there are a few exceptions where the grimoire hints at an exo 'figuring' out that he's a machine. Cayde, for example, knows.), so they still act like they're human, they even have real human memories, since they're based off a real preson or something like that.
Exos are self-aware war machines so advanced that nothing short of a Ghost can understand their inner functions. They remain ciphers, even to themselves

Exo minds are human. It is incontrovertible... Now here's the real question. Why are Exo minds human?
Frames on the other hand, are not sentient, and they don't wear clothes.
Frames are simple automata built in the City. Although not equipped with true general sentience, they are nevertheless useful for cleaning, maintenance, and service tasks. Frames do have the ability to learn, and many develop quirks of personality and behavior over long lifespans.
3 RepliesSince my Exo has to wear clothes in the game, I make up for it by always playing Destiny naked That's probably why my stream got banned and I haven't been invited to Bungie HQ for the D2 reveal
-
The exo stranger isn't wearing anything. Except for that sick hood/cloak thing... I want that.

Pervert.

14 RepliesThis is what i have been saying since release. Please bungie. Add parts instead of armor for exo's. And make racial exclusive features. Exo's ..more armor.+2 Awoken..more health regen.+2 Hoomans..more "agility"+2 That way you can mix and match.

Have you seen the stranger? She is naked
