And with those words, our masters in the tower sealed our fate!!!!
why we needed to engage and kill the cabal leaders was never explained to us , we just did it blindly , and we killed everyone of them, just another target to kill for loot, like dogs being rewarded with a bone.
I understand what a looming threat the cabal was. But with other looming threats, like a Hive Prince on the moon, and Vex Timegods , why did we need to provoke a military empire at the same time?
We were only beginning to understand our light, and was barely able to hold off the Fallen, what made the vanguard decide we could handle a war with an unknown military alien empire, especially has the Hive were slaughtering thousands of guardians on the moon, and were starting to attack earth and we still were trying to decipher the mysteries of the Vex. I know you can attribute this to bad writing , but with the plot of Destiny 2 being centered around it, it can't be forgotten.
The cabal had not shown any interest for any planet besides mars, and they were there for the vex, not us, there original intentions for entering the sol system was exploration and discovery, they were seeking to understand and learn from the vex, as we were. They only turned there focus torward us after we started slaughtering there legions and assassinating there commanders for no reason.
Just think, if the 3 stooges in the tower hadn't acted so rash, we could have been allies with the Cabal, now we have to watch helplessly has the red legion destroys everything we hold dear, and strips us from our light. All because the vanguards wanted us to kill cabal on mars.
Makes you understand why some guardians deserted to join Osiris and Efrideet, they could see the the ignorance of the vanguard and the speaker and saw the dangerous path they were leading us down.
I also wonder if there will be future consequences for killing Atheon, another target we killed without rhyme or reason

Because of the enemies we had, the Cabal were most vulnerable to the "cut off the head and the body follows" mentality. Think about it: The Fallen have 4+ houses, each with their own goals and leadership, making them hard to expect and out maneuver. The Vex are... well, the Vex. Aside from the leaders we can see, there could be thousands more that we can't. Hell, as far as I know, whole planets could be Vex Timegods. The Hive have a similar thing to the Vex, except their gods can hide in the Ascendant Realm (each of which is unique to each Hive god). The Cabal were mortal, their leaders were mostly predicable, and couldn't hide, even if they wanted to (which they don't). Also, we didn't know that they would be able to contact their homeworld, we assumed we were fighting the whole army they were willing to send to our system. We could understand the Cabal, better then we could understand our other enemies, they were easy. (and it doesn't hurt that they took massive loses during the Taken War)

To be fair, the Cabal would've attacked anyway because its been stated multiple times they don't make allies. They make slaves. Sounds awkward but hey, they be the biggest slave driven empire I've seen yet. They're based off Rome and as you know, Rome hated making allies

The cabal would have attacked us anyway because they were expanding their empire constantly, and we were the next target. Vanguard attacked them because it's better to take out their command sooner rather than later.
-
In reality, the Cabal attacked us first without reason. See the trailer Crimson Days card.

He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defenses, take this beast out, and break their grip on Freehold. Another reason to hope we can choose to side with Osiris in D2.

1 ReplyFleet base Korus?Kora?forgot the name but that Grimoire card is truly interesting and somehow hints to D2...

Great post, but you forgot the shield brothers strike. If we didn't kill their last officers, then the system would become a giant piñata because they strapped all those explosives to the core of the dreadnought.
-
Well its stated in the lore that when Guardians were traveling back to Mars, they were attacked and killed by invading Cabal forces.
-
The fact that the cabal were in our solar system was a big enough cause for concern among the vanguard.

1 ReplyEdited by Lt Chardoe: 5/10/2017 10:48:32 PMFoolish one, these worlds are ours by right. These alien creatures have laid claim to our ancient homes and occupy the ruins of our golden age. This can not be borne. We must erradicate them from our lands until only the blowing ash remains as a testament to thier hubris and folly.
Sylock the defiled! May stay though because he's my dawg
Well...we kinda ran into them. Thanks the Prince sending us to the Exclusion zone. We killed some cabal. We got their attention. Angering the cabal is accepting war. It was our faults for getting involved, but not our fault for wiping out the hundreds of the troops they send.
-
We needed to charge the gatelord's eye in order to open the black garden, but it was being guarded by the cabal.

I blame dead orbit and their "tip"

Edited by Attika: 5/11/2017 3:45:39 AMDestroying towers is in those sand dwelling f***ers' blood anyways. Also, Mars had oil and WMD's.

2 RepliesGuardians had been fighting Cabal long before our Guardian went to Mars. We also had to get past the Cabal to stop the Black Hearts threat to the Traveller. We also had to stop their threat to Rasputin. You forget the Cabal Legion that attacked the Reef. They also sent a force to Mercury which disappeared without a trace. There was also a second fleet around Phobos, which communication intercepts by the Vanguard/Cryptarch indicated that they were building a fleet to assault Earth.
