I fully expect a competitive/ranked game mode to exist in D2, it's a huge draw for Destiny's online presence and keeps players engaged, with that said some things need to be considered if Bungie are going down this route, firstly are we keeping weapon performance the same across PVE and PVP? I am of the opinion this is a bad idea, as illustrated throughout Destiny's life cycle PVP ends up leading PVE changes which usually has a negative impact on the PVE experience. Secondly class balance, this has shifted throughout Destiny's life cycle but a big issue for a competitive/ranked mode is not having classes have fundamental advantages, back during the early days unlimited blink was a good example of a fundamental advantage warlocks and hunters enjoyed over titans, just as titan skating is an advantage Titans now utilise, For a competitive/ranked mode these differences should not exist. Lastly matchmaking, your day to day normal matchmaking should be concerned about finding decent connections first and foremost, always a balancing act but "skill" should be a secondary concern in fact for your average crucible match shouldn't be a massive concern at all, as for ranked/competitive ideally dedicated servers, so the Americans are playing the Americans, Europeans Europeans, etc. and within those geographic populations match on ability.
