I disagree with OP; Crucible/trials is the main reason I play this game and had kept me hooked for 3 years!
I love the PVE; but, both "modes" makes the whole package and makes Destiny unique.
But all have to agree that changes in the sandbox for PVP shouldn't affect PVE unless is to make the guardians stronger.
