Very unlikely that it has anything to do with trials. Bungo has consistently said they want a whole new experience so having trials of Osiris would kind of ruin that

Maybe not how he is saying but I feel pretty confident in the fact that trials will be in destiny 2, trials has pretty much made itself a staple of destiny and the dlc will drop when normal vanilla hype has died down and people start getting bored
