I'm disabled and in constant pain. Gaming has helped me cope because it is a distraction. You don't know what each individual goes through, or what helps them. Some may use it as escape, but some isn't all.

No matter how you frame it, it's am escape. Coping with a prosthetic limb would involve training on it physically until you can run on it comfortably with no limits to your daily or athletic functioning. Hiding from you disability would be accepting it and avoiding it. Like with gaming. What is your disability?

7 herniated discs, disc degeneration, sciatica, no cartilage in one knee, arthritic, cervical occipital neuralgia. Most issues going back 12yrs.(I'm only 37) Gaming allows me to feel some small sense of accomplishment, as I'm very limited, and it's normally a great diversion to constant physical pain, which helps me rely less on pain killers. It's also good for my depression, as it's normally enjoyable, so I understand why it helps people going through emotional troubles as well. Now, if someone escapes too much into it and shirks their responsibilities, I can see a problem with escape. But like I said, it goes by the individual case.
