The Last Word was a PvE BEAST....Once Upon a Time....

Once upon a time….. All the PvP children cried that this gun was made for their mode alone, but they were all of them deceived. The enlightened guardians who were filled with the light knew that in the right hands, it was a monster against the darkness…..if you knew how to work with it. Here’s why TLW was a PvE beast before Bungie “fixed” it for PvP purposes. Also here’s why the reviews saying it wasn’t viable for PvE HAD to have just sucked with it. Here’s what TLW did….once upon a time…. 1 - Once upon a time, hip fire perk potentially allowed max movement speed WHILE dealing more DPS than nearly any other primary. No other primary offered that combination. None. Not Vex Mythoclast. Not even MIDA with RDM boots. TLW was the only weapon that allowed full range of movement while dealing lots of damage very quickly. Hence why the gun USED to make you feel like a futuristic cowboy. 2. Once upon a time, it was the most effective kinetic against shielded enemies, and against majors or enemies with no critical points like minotaurs. If you didn’t have an elemental primary, then TLW could soften that limitation. No other kinetic primary would waste them like TLW. None. Charging knight major. Powpowpowpowpow. Down. Minotaur major. Powpowpowpow. Shield down. Powpowpow. Fast Reload while waiting for annoying teleport. Powpowpowpow. Aaand down. 3. One hit, non-crit kills on tier 1 enemies like thrall. That’s 8 quick kills. Enemies rarely even come out 8 at a time. Once upon a time, a true aim with TLW would tear through a group of low end enemies faster than any auto or pulse. Refer to no. 2 on what to do after clearing small tier enemies 4. One hit kills on tier 2 if you’re aim was true. Quick double taps on all enemies not killed with a critical. Once upon a time, the RoF and damage boost made this gun more than a match for other weapons. Just needed to be able to aim it. 5. Low reload time was easily fixable with the right load out, esp for Gunslingers w’ chain of woe. Once upon a time, reload was one of the “negatives” cited about this gun, but that’s only cause people didn’t know what they had in this weapon, now it really is a negative as the hip-fire bonus provides no incentive to hip-fire….ever. A handcannon reload load out is absolutely necessary for it to even be worth a crap, instead of being a nice boost to the weapon. 7. Once upon a time, even after this weapon was heavily set-upon by Bungie after PvP outcry, this gun could STILL wreck in PvE. It just wouldn’t go down, that is until Bungie finally neutered it. Castrated it. or “fixed” it if you will. In the end, this gun has been tweaked out of it’s PvE usefulness which is a shame. It’s the only gun I (and many others) ever really enjoyed using because of it’s style, sound, animations and a perk that encouraged a completely different style of gunplay. I’ve used all of the other weapons, but this one kept me coming back long after the rest of the gunplay began to bore me. Being a space cowboy never got old, but now if you take TLW into PvE, it’s just for kicks and giggles. I’d boot someone who thought they could do the Raid Challenges with this weapon, whereas this gun used to be great in VoG for oracles if you weren’t cheesing, or didn’t sport Super Good Advice or a VoG weapon. *Sign* more fun destroyed by PvP balance and people who had no idea how to use it in PvE. Once upon a time…..Last Word really could give you the last word.
