The Man and Monkey
The chimp sat in his lawn chair as the wind rustled through the palm trees. The sunset would be here soon. It was a small island some place in the Atlantic. Looking over at the empty lawn chair he was waiting for the man to return.
The man came back with some drinks as he handed the chimp a small juice box. They sat watching the sun drift off on the horizon. The waves lapped up the shore as the low tide was in. The man shared a banana with the chimp.
Most days were like this as the man was a meteorologist. He often took readings of hurricanes or other weather patterns before they hit the coast. The thing is he actually owned the island smiling at the chimp who was his one true friend in all the world.
The chimp hopped down from the chair got his little plastic storage box from under it. Opening it found some dried fruit to munch on. The Chimp sat back down as the sun went down and night came. Out here no sense of urgency.
Watching the most beautiful show on earth as mother nature intended. They sat under the stars as the man had a few beers reaching down into his storage container for some dried fruit as well. Soon they fell asleep and headed off for bed.
Waking up the man shaved as he had no real place to go. Got him some food and the monkey. It was all gas out here as an electric generator provided power. He had three generators to be sure if anything happens they would have some sort of power.
The next morning the man took some reading sending it over to the U.S. Weather service as well as other country's national weather stations in the area. He had a pretty expensive set up as the equipment would have been far too expensive for a normal man.
It was dark outside as he looked out from the small shack out at the dock and the tire swing he made one day. On top of the shack was Doppler radar as well as other temperature gauges and solar panels to run it off of battery's.
Checking the equipment with a flashlight he climbed down having another beer. Checking his connection he sent the information from his laptop to every weather station off the coast of Florida.
He checked the HAM radio and his sat phone to make sure if a storm kicked up he would be prepared here as well as take readings. Looking over at the chimp who was pretending to read a newspaper from six months ago.
It showed both him and the monkey on the front page. Another life he lead as he was one of the country's best stockbroker's and real estate entrepreneur. He got his masters in business as he had his own company.
One day he passed a pet shop stepping inside the man behind the counter showed him several pets. He came in here on impulse as he found George who reminded him of his child hood hero. The both of them went on to be very successful.
He went into the dry foods business with George as his partner. Putting the chimp in a suit out front with his own desk tended to break the ice. Then he sold some of the company found some one else to run it. He was making big money from real estate and the dry food.
Sometimes inventors would show him some interesting stuff. Often he had to say no or see if they could modify it. Consumers like good products and he had an eye for such a thing. After he sold the company he went back to school becoming a meteorologist.
Purchased the island and the gear to help the weather service. Now he spends time with his best friend enjoying the good life. Sometimes he got calls about things back home. Family or the business as he helped the person he trusted try to transition into being CEO.
Every day as the sky turn's pink as a morning ritual the man and monkey walked across the sand to the beach to watch the sun rise again. The man brought his red cooler full of beer and a few snacks. George brought his back pack this time.
They sat out as the sun rose into the sky as it was noon. The man went off to make some lunch when George stopped coloring as he heard some sort of sound. In the distance he could see ripples in the water. It might be a fish. Going back to coloring sipping his juice box.
Then something came out of the water as he put down the coloring book with a crayon in hand. A beautiful woman came out of the water in a wet suit. She looked much like a model from a magazine. Her green eyes seem to sparkle.
The crayon fell from Georges hand as his jaw dropped. Her hair was dark that came down to her waist once she untied it. She had on some S.C.U.B.A. gear as she set down the oxygen tank.
George looked back seeing the man with two sandwiches with his mouth open. A open beer was on the ground as the contents spilled into the sand.
Apparently the man had been coming back with food. The woman had a rip in the suit at the leg. She was bleeding.
"Hello? " She limped up the beach as the man recovered. Her voice very British.
"Oh can we help you ? "The man smiled as she sighed shaking her head confused.
"I am really lost. Bloody hell i swam for a while now. " The man set down the food he had as he helped her into his lawn chair.
"George the medical kit. " She smiled as it made George feel really good. He got the medical kit handing it to the man.
"Thanks kid...now it seems something got you. Does not look like a jelly fish bite or anything poisons. " A one foot gash was on the woman's right calf. No bite marks as well.
"You might have hit some of the reef as you swam over. Be glad no sharks were in the area. " She winced as he applied the antiseptic. Placing some gauze she felt better now.
"Here let me get you inside don't worry George will bring the tank with us. " George scampered off grabbing the Oxygen tank carrying it as he trailed behind the two. The man set this British woman down.
"I am so sorry..i feel so stupid. If you have a phone i can call my parents. " We were taking a vacation here. The woman was in her late thirty's as her smile seemed to just brighten a room.
After talking to her parents on the phone her boat will come to pick her up soon. She sat up on his bed as she smiled. Taking an interest in George.
"I am a Vet back in England. I love animals as i can see you take very good care of him. "The man knew she looked like a super model but she had real brains behind those lovely eyes.
"He takes care of me as i take care of him. "George embarrassed was pretending to read a newspaper. Pretty ladies don't come very often. Not ones who are Veterinarian's.
"All i have is juice beer water and applesauce? " looking at Gorge for a minute as the chimp was clearly pretending to be innocent. The woman giggled some.
"We get weekly shipments as sometimes George sneaks in some orders. " The man was leaning on the Refrigerator door.
" I see then Juice i guess. I can take a look at George? As a thanks for the help. " George walked up to her as she patter her lap.
"I won't bite. " George sat down as she took a look at the chimp. He was loving all the attention now.
"You make house calls often? "She smiled checking George over nodding in satisfaction.
"Back in Yorkshire i run a family clinic. I came here to get rid of stress. Also you have one healthy Chimp. " George hopped down as he got himself a juice box as well
"I actually own this island as were here for the weather service. I have not had a chance to take George to the Vet on the mainland. So thank you. " She smiled as she pulled the man down to sit next to her.
"I am sorry i am Dr. Brianna Heart from of course York Shire. I never met a man with an island or a Chimp for a friend. " She smiled at George who blushed.
"Right am Daniel or Danny Colton the third. Its a corny name i know. " The man rubbed the back of his neck bashfully.
"I think it is a fine name. I think that the name of the billionaire who retired? " She was a bit shocked.
"Yes that is me. George here is my partner. We figured we could do something useful. " She giggled again as the sat pone rang. It was her parents again.
"They are on there way. They got worried as they looked for me for hours. Thank you both. "She kissed the Chimp who really blushed.
" Call me any time hero. I will not mind paying a visit. Next time i can bring my Veterinarian kit to really give George a check up. " Kissing the man as she gave him her number. As they walked her out to the dock. Her boat sat next to his.
She waved bye then was gone as the man had never met a woman quite like that. Even Gorge had a goofy grin on his face waving good bye. They headed back to the beach to pick up where they left off. He would definitely call her.
