They were the Justin Bieber of the 60s, they were not rock and roll, and didn't invent it either. Rock and roll was invented by black men long before the Beatles and even Elvis, they just didn't get any credit because America was racist. Howlin Wolf (guy was [i]way[/i] ahead of his time), Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Jackie Brenston (Rocket 88 was the first rock song) are some examples. And John Lennon was also a communist, just listen to the lyrics of Imagine.
