Hey everyone,
My brother and I got into an argument earlier today about who is better at Destiny. His whole basis was that Light Level beats out experience. He told me he was better than me (he mains a 398 Lock, I main a 397 Hunter). The only thing is: he has 11 days played on his Warlock, while I have 22 days on my hunter (he also has sub 1 days played on his Titan and Hunter, I have much more on my Titan and Warlock; his Titan isn't even a level 10) So, here is the question: is experience better than light level? Take an example for instance. (This is a true story, me being the Hunter and this other guy being the Titan). So, it was the VoG challenge week, and we were going for VoG challenge. I was only a 390 at that time, and then we got another 400 into our lobby. He had max light level and everything. We kept on trying to do challenge mode with him. We quickly learned he was really inexperienced at VoG (he was standing on top of the sync plate pillars at Atheon, drawing his fire), but we kept on going. I, on the other hand, knew (mostly) what I was doing, as I have played since Day 1. The level 400 Titan started blaming all of the wipes on me, so people started paying more attention to who did what. It turns out that he was always going into the portal and hitting the further most oracle, causing confusion with the people who got teleported. He, also, was the relic holder a few times, and forgot he has to kill an oracle as well as us. He eventually had to go, and we swapped him out with a 395 that knew what to do. We got it done within 20 mins of him joining, after we spent 4 hours with the Titan. Go ahead and judge whether or not light level beats out experience (within reason, a day 1 on a lvl 30 won't be more helpful than a 400).

experience will help but, you can't raid a 390 light raid at 200 so it is a combo of both. That said, if you meet the minimum light requirement, experience is more important than light. The ability to know the timing, where to stand and not take damage is far more important than your dps output.

You need both to complete any activity Light level is easier to gain than experience, though
