I'm thinking of buying a monitor as part of my gaming setup (ps4 and xb1). Right now I'm leaning toward the Benq zowie rl2455 for about $200. I'm particularly interested in the 1ms response time and low input lag.
Any advice on this or any comparable monitor? I would also consider an IPS so long as it still has what might be considered a relative competitive response time and low input lag.
Any thoughts from people more educated in this topic than myself?

I've got a 32 inch Samsung UE32J6300 research on tinternet says it's got a input lag of 42ms in game mode. Does anyone know if I switched to a BenQ RL2455hm would there be much of a difference?

3 Replies$200 for a 60Hz TN panel is a rip off honestly. Don't confuse response time with input lag. They are two completely different things. Response time is how long it takes a pixel to change colors. A high response time will create a ghosting effect aka motion blur. Anything 5ms or below is perfectly fine for competitive gaming as there won't be any noticeable ghosting. It's actually quite sad that response time is being used to manipulate people into overspending on monitors. Input lag will be around 10ms on the vast majority of monitors, but they'll never use this rating in their spec sheet. Just know that 10ms is the standard input lag for any quality display, and a few will have an input lag of 9ms, but that is really as low as you'll ever see it. My advice is one of two options. Either pick up a $100 TN panel; or look into getting an IPS panel for around $150-$200. The visual quality of an IPS panel due to the much wider color gamut is definitely worth it over a TN panel since you won't be going over 60 fps anyway on your xbox or playstation. Really the only time to buy a TN panel is if you need a cheap 144Hz display. This is personally what I would get for your situation. It's a quality 1920x1080 IPS panel with a 5ms response time and 9ms input lag. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B1IAL7W/?tag=pcpapi-20

Edited by Moof Juice: 4/22/2017 4:42:05 PMHeres what i can tell you. I used to play on a 55" samsung, 120hz(unimportant really) and it had roughly 50ms of input lag (somewhere in the 40s using game mode) the picture quality between the two is nearly identical I switched to a 27" HP monitor that i had laying around because i was considering getting a ben q for D2 and i wanted to see if theres a difference. The monitor I'm on now has 8ms of input lag, and i can tell you that it makes a difference. Will it significantly improve your KD? Nah. But it will definitely make you feel like your engagements are more fair, (especially sniping) and your shots will feel a little more crisp.

PS4 doesnt support 144hz so dont go that far

Why waste money on that when its gonna be bottlenecked by how shit destiny is?

Well considering consoles have shitty graphics there's no point of you getting an expensive monitor. At this point just get one that's 1080 and you pretty much maxed out a consoles potential. If you plan on getting a PC or PC destiny a 144hz is the best way to go. More expensive then the 60 but the difference is noticeable and you'll have the edge on players with a 60hz monitor.

I couldn't go back to playing on TV after playing on a BenQ for nearly 2 years. Get one and don't think twice about it if gaming is something you love doing

1 ReplyI played on several televisions, a projection screen, a small monitor, all sorts of screens since Destiny came out. I recently got a BenQ monitor. The one specifically made for console gaming. It's fantastic. The game looks a million times better, and there are now textures and subtleties I'd never noticed before. I reccomend it, but keep in mind that every display I'd used up until getting my BenQ was total crap. The worst was the giant projection screen. Its set up for theater viewing, and gaming on it was horrible.

1 ReplyI recommend a large piece of cardboard covered in poo. You get the same gameplay experience but it only costs 4$

A good monitor for any game in general and has the specs that you are looking for is the BenQ GL2460Hm. Its about 130$ if you order it off of the BenQ website. The monitor has been used by multiple professional players and is definitely worthy buying

Thanks for so many comments: do you find for the TN monitors that the colors are all that bad? That's the only thing I wondered. And it seems now that IPS are comparable in input lag time (not response time) and that matters more. Is that true?

While I don't know much about monitors I was torn between that same benq and the asus vg248q. I ended up going with the asus. It can do a higher resolution so it's good for pc including console. While I've never actually tested anything out numbers wise I can tell you I really enjoy it and will never go back to a regular tv. I've heard some people say they really enjoy their benq, but I've also heard from people that know better that your just paying more for the name than anything else
