I was let down by Ashes of Ariandel so I was hoping the Ringed City would be better but holy -blam!- it is not.
This dlc feels so -blam!-ing lazy I'm not sure if I want to even finish it and that is a god damn shame since these bosses look like some of the best in Souls.
The angels are shit with some questionable aiming and it just feels like you have to hide from your enemies a lot here. That's how this whole dlc feels
Again, the whole bridge with the 50 phantom archers that you can't attack, feels like metal gear Souls. I don't want to play stealth in Souls. If I wanted to play stealth I'd pop in MGS5, Deus Ex, or any other game but not Dark Souls.
Then there's just the design itself. It feels cheap. "Ah a narrow staircase? Let's put 5 giants on it for difficulty!"
"Ah the dragonslayer armor? Let's just throw that in this marshy looking area for no reason to make it hard to get loot"
Lazy lazy lazy! The base game was a work of art but these dlc's have been utter trash. What a shitty way to send off Dark Souls
Update: beat the pvp boss and now I'm at Slave Knight Gael. Dlc is already better
Update: beat Darkeater Midir and the dlc. Dlc gets better so it's mainly that garbage area and just shit

37 RepliesGod, you do nothing but complain, don't you? Let's break your whining apart piece by piece, shall we?
Ashes was decent, not the best ever done, but not horrid. Laziness and intricacy are similar to the casual Souls player, but not to most. The level design and enemy placements mean something usually. Figured you would know that by now.
The angels are shit with some questionable aiming and it just feels like you have to hide from your enemies a lot here. It adds something back into the game we haven't seen since Demon's Souls. I remember the OG dragon bridge strip. Having to dash and dip into buildings to avoid the dragon. Archer bridge was a wink at it in my opinion. It's not stealth, but more a puzzle.
Then there's just the design itself. It feels cheap. "Ah a narrow staircase? In regards to reused bosses, where to start.. Demon's had phalanx and others. DkS1 had gargoyle, taurus AND capra. DkS2 had flextile, sentries, and one I know I'm forgetting. DkS3 had the Sage and armor. Been done many times, stop whining.
Lazy lazy lazy! The base game was a work of art but these dlc's have been utter trash. What a shitty way to send off Dark Souls
To those who care too little for lore, yes. To us who do care, one of the best DLC to date. Git gud.

1 ReplyYou're not even good at destiny and that game is pre-school compared to dark souls.

He's mad 'cause he's bad! Hah!

Edited by Cell: 4/19/2017 12:20:52 PMI got through the area on Ng8 with little to no problem and midir was the only one who gave me trouble because I don't play a sorcerer built. Sounds like you expected the DLC to be as easy as the base game and seems like you just either suck, are unfamiliar with how to roll properly, or don't know to adapt. Do I need to even say it? Edited for typo

At least the marsh doesn't have poison in it
-
Why are you complaining about the Dargonslayer Armor being there? I loved fighting him again, and he's easier here than the first time you fight him because you don't have to worry about the giant laser shooting butterflies. Bringing back bosses as minibosses has been a thing since DS1, and I personally love it because the boss fights are the best part of Dark Souls.

16 RepliesMetal gear souls? You get past that bridge in two volleys. Takes not even 15 seconds
-
How does dragonslayer armor make it hard to get loot? He's all the way in the back by himself, there's nothing back there but him

Your just bad

Edited by Gustav: 4/18/2017 8:09:03 PM
This dlc feels so -blam!-ing lazy I'm not sure if I want to even finish it and that is a god damn shame since these bosses look like some of the best in Souls.
so from what i can tell, by "lazy" you refer to putting a highly requested armor set in the game, and then having a difficult enemy guard it. cool.
The angels are shit with some questionable aiming and it just feels like you have to hide from your enemies a lot here. That's how this whole dlc feels
and thats... a bad thing? i thought you critiqued FROM for being lazy, but here you're angry about them doing something new?
Again, the whole bridge with the 50 phantom archers that you can't attack, feels like metal gear Souls. I don't want to play stealth in Souls. If I wanted to play stealth I'd pop in MGS5, Deus Ex, or any other game but not Dark Souls.
then go play MGS? i really dont understand your point here. so you're angry because, what, you couldn't get past the archers? because you're bad, that makes the area bad?
Then there's just the design itself. It feels cheap. "Ah a narrow staircase? Let's put 5 giants on it for difficulty!" "Ah the dragonslayer armor? Let's just throw that in this marshy looking area for no reason to make it hard to get loot"
and here we have the main arguement. if you actually explored the areas, you'd realize you're not supposed to go down that stairwell, you're supposed to go left. as for the dragonslayer armor, you said you uninstalled the game JUST because of that alone? i dont know if your own arguements sound amazing to yourself but maybe you should repeat them to yourself a few times.
Lazy lazy lazy! The base game was a work of art but these dlc's have been utter trash. What a shitty way to send off Dark Souls
utter trash. yeah, those bosses were terrible. terrible weapons, right? new weapon types, who cares? viable spells? -blam!- that. dark souls 1 inspired level design? bandai should just stop funding FROM, right???? anyone think so except for me????

Lol i agree with an andywall post?! Wtf is happening!!!!!!

25 RepliesDo you whine at everything you're bad at? This is like the hundredth post of you crying about how bad you are at the DS series
-
2 RepliesEdited by nbah3: 4/17/2017 11:21:29 PMI think you just don't like dark souls. You seem to complain about anything that's even remotely challenging.

You know you're going crazy when you say the same word 3 times in a row
-
I haven't even played DS3 and I know that this is a load.

7 RepliesI thought it was an amazing send-off to the series.Who wan't an easy DLC for the last Dark Souls content for the foreseeable future? The archers aren't that hard, just hide, then jump down to the lower area, climb the ladder and run past everything until you find the bonfire. The angels are also no big deal. Kill the things controlling them and they'll never respawn. I find the areas very well designed. The bosses are very very good.
-
It's almost like these games are meant to be hard. Huh, who knew.
-
3 RepliesGit gud.

Lol mad cause bad, git gud casual.
-
23 RepliesThe base game spoiled you, glad to see areas outside of bosses actually being difficult again.
-
I enjoyed it. I mean the best dlc in the series is artorias the abyss walker but this delivered twice the amount of content than ashes of ariandel.
-
5 RepliesAlthough I was not a very big fan of the DLC both for Midir and the conclusion to Lapp's quest line, and I would go as far as to say that I enjoyed Ashes of Ariandel more, I can at least diagnose your issues with personal opinion. I feel the Angels are great. They're something new to the Dark Souls franchise and while many people will run past them I feel it's very rewarding to stealth past them. People like giving critism to new mechanics because they're a deviation from what they are comfortable with. The archer section on the buttress is not stealth, more of a puzzle section. Why would you want to kill the archers if they would so easily obliterate you anyway? You have to move from cover to cover or else you die no matter what, and the fact that this part is uncheeseable is pretty great. However, I don't really understand your complaint with this. You're just moving behind cover to avoid damage; you do the same thing to avoid skele-boulders in the Catacombs of Carthus in DS3, do the same thing during the Executioner's Chariot boss in DS2, do the same thing on the Sunlight Bridge to avoid the Helkite dragon in DS1. It's a common mechanic for the series. I will assume you're referencing the Harald Knights right before the Ringed City Streets in the beginning of the last section. If so, they have a very exploitable plunging attack that can instantly kill them if you have decent damage. The area puts many inclines above the Knights with them below you. As for the Dragonslayer Armour, he was actually quite challenging. I wouldn't be surprised if he was copy and pasted into the DLC but with shorter range attacks more suited for the new environment. However, it makes sense from a standpoint of lore, since there were many more Dragonslayer Armours than the one we fought and this one was dispatched to kill Darkeater Midir. That is the one reason why I can accept it in the DLC.

22 Repliesso they try new things and you call them lazy for it are you ill

I love the souls series but I honestly disliked the level design in this dlc. I loved everything else though.

I wanted cooler armor and Velka but appart from that....pretty decent.
