How Bungie Could Make Atheon Encounter Start On Player Command

Leave it as it is, I like the challenge

Good idea; I'd support Bungie elsewhere for this

They're not going to change it, this post is stupi

So I've heard a large number of people bemoan the fact that the Atheon encounter starts right away when you spawn into the final Vault of Glass chamber after a wipe. The lack of time control in this phase is honestly the largest factor in why I saw so many fireteams fall apart trying to run this section last week. There was no chance to get re-oriented or take a breather, so tensions only mounted. And if we're going to have to run Atheon over an over across the coming months in order to get our loot... there needs to be a better way. It occurred to me that this must have been happening in Year 1 as well, as every other raid boss after that point has a waiting area and/or a specific item or action to start the encounter. Templar has the relic, Ir Yut has the pool waiting area, Crota has a crystal that needs a hug. Warpriest has pads, Golgoroth has a mucus bubble, daughters have their pads, and Oryx has the taken spark. And finally, Vosik has the central platform, while Aksis has the Siva lights and the collar for the two phases. But Atheon... Atheon just starts right away, over and over and over again. All they'd have to do is have the Relic appear in that central platform again, and one guardian can land on it to find the effect "Send Aegis Through Time". Then they just hold the use button (X for Xbox, I don't know for playstation, sorry) to start the encounter, the relic disappears, and Atheon spawns in. I think it would do well because fireteams would have a chance at a break in the chain of combat without going to orbit, and it introduces the concepts inside the rest of the fight quite well. First timers would easily reason that the relic now exists inside of the timegates (because they're "time" gates), as well as the need for the gates to be opened, and that this central platform holds precedence. It also reinforces the lore that one side is the past while the other is the future. Most importantly, it would also give people time to coordinate their synths so that everybody who has no sleeper ammo for one phasing in challenge mode can get restocked. And the best part... it reuses items and actions that are already coded into the game for easy implementation. Add the relic (already exists) to that place in the game (already central and right in front of spawn), then change the start condition of Atheon (already programmed, it's simply "set" to start right away) to be based upon the relic (already programmed in and we know it can be done as it was done for Templar). Then you just de-spawn the relic (happens when Templar is beaten, so that already exists) and everything is good. The only new part really is the text. Edit: I included the last option in the poll for those who have lost faith in Bungie. It's certainly possible that there'll be some fixes to Destiny 1 before Destiny 2 launches, they still have to maintain the game. After all, we were told that there would be no more live updates, not that there'd be no more fixes. But then again, there may be no fixes either, or sandbox updates, or anything at all to make sure Destiny carries us through to Destiny 2 without sinking.
