The Truth about Destiny (PvP)

So there has been a huge variety of complaints over Bungie's pvp. After stepping away from the game for a while I have figured out the issue. I would like for you to please hear me out on this one. Honestly, Destiny doesn't work well with PvP. In other words, pvp doesn't fit. The amount of money and time that it would take to make crucible actually good would give anyone a heart attack. Destiny has so much loot in its game, on top of so many perks and abilities to weigh on top of that when it comes down to balancing. Nobody could keep up with all of it. So what does Bungie do? Metas... a period of time where a group of weapons have the edge. Why do they do this? To get people to play and grind longer on their game. How does that help them? They don't have to spend the time to manage their game and it gets you to pay them money when all of that expensive DLC comes out. Instead of allowing you to find a weapon and grow a bond with it, while you learn its ups and downs, they bring you the meta method. I don't really care if you want to sit back and protect Bungie. As long as it isn't my money you are wasting.

  • I like PvP, but it could be better with: 1. Bigger maps and better map design. 2. More unique game modes instead of using FPS classics and renaming them. 3. Far more players (would require dedicated servers). 4. One team being guardians and the other team consisting of Fallen, Hive, Cabal and Taken enemy types. Resistance 2 did the same thing with humans vs Chimera, and it makes the same amount of sense to do it in Destiny.

  • Destiny was a PVE game but people soon realized it had a beautiful, smooth, fun pvp. I don't like how they have handled balance at all but saying it doesn't work well with destiny is in my opinion and I think many others wrong

    • We wouldn't need a Meta if they just buffed the weapons everyone tells them to. Nope.. Everytime they buff something, they HAVE to nerf something else. Why?? We buffed auto rifles (by barely anything) so we have to nerf handcannons, yet again. Why?

    • If Bungie had tried for a game that played more like Overwatch and less like Halo 3, the game as a whole would be better off.

    • bungie doesnt establish the metas... metas are established by the community gravitating to what kills the fastest or most effectively. The arguement can be made that bungie makes the metas through nerfing curtain things, but the nerfs that change the meta are due to the community demanding them... perfect example: Clever dragon/Matador peoples main complaints were clever dragon had to much range, flinched to much and would outshoot various guns at various ranges. matador (aka the "mapador") got complaints for its range, being able to "map" or "cross-map" players. this was an obvious exaggeration but none the less... these two weapona had the vocal minority in an uproar on the feedback forum, on reddit, and on social media complaining that they were "op" and "broken" and demanded they get nerfed or removed from the game entirely... now, when they demanded these changes they didnt consider what would happen next... cut to post 2.5.0 (the matador/clever dragon nerf patch) guess what the new meta is? its NLB and Sidearms, AKA the previous Antimeta. they didnt consider what would replace clever dragon and matador when they were complaining, but once they got what they asked for a new flock joins the vocal minority to protest the new "no-flinch beyond"...

      • I think it can work, if only they focus on keeping weapon balancing separate. Bungie and Activision have a history of supporting popular PVP modes in multiple games. I think the talent and money is there, its just that their process is the problem. I got no doubt that balancing weapons in Destiny has been a nightmare of an experience for them. They change the smallest thing and while it works for one mode it throws off the balance in another. Weapons go from being great to terrible to functioning completely differently then what they once were. Exotics don't feel exotic anymore. People gravitate toward certain archetypes then those get nerfed eventually. Its crazy. I think Destiny has room for PVP, but Bungie needs to really consider how much influence moving weapons between each modes has on the other. I don't want another "Vex Mythoclast" weapon that's hard to get, very good because its suppose to be and gets nerfed to oblivion because of how it was used in a mode you can't even earn it in.

      • I think you may have a point. PvP certainly doesn't fit well with the lore (Guardians slaughtering each other while the enemies of the City close in). Unfortunately, since it's also the game mode that endlessly changes, since your opponents are controlled by human brains instead of AI's, it may be hard to completely dispense with.
