Xür, weapons, Eververse and a line that is getting a lot harder to see

So I don't think I made my point I was trying to make with this. The point isn't that buying Zhalo is pay-to-win. The point is that up until now, Eververse hasn't had anything to do with anything other than skins with weapons. By bundling weapons with ornaments and requiring Coins and Silverdust, it starts to get closer to the idea of just buying weapons in my opinion. There is no reason that makes sense to me to sell these bundles when the ornaments are available on their own other than to push people to purchase from Eververse. Agree or disagree, I don't think there should be any connection to actual weapons and real world currency.

  • So far bungie has dealt with microtransactions well, imo. Keeping them mainly cosmetic. You also have to factor in that dust isnt that difficult to obtain just by playing the weeklys.

Xur is cool but it's just not helping they should have left him like he was... sell an exotic one every 2 or 3 weeks..

    • Its a slippery slope that Bungie is definitely trying to warm everyone up to gradually, but yes eventually it will be pay to play I mean c'mon! Where do you really think this is heading? This game is shot, D2 will be new, and thats it. We already know its the Cabal cut content from the OG game, why would you want to buy that knowing it will be just more of the same crap from Bungie, and yes silver is going to be a HUGE part of D2 mark my words.

      • Seeing as they also require strange coins, I don't care. You can buy zhalo anyways but now it's harder with silver dust, this post is pointless and not well thought out.

          • The line was already crossed when they introduced rep-boosters in my opinion. It will get worse and worse with every update regarding pay to win in Destiny and it is sad that a lot of people still feel ok with it. Destiny was advertised as a full online game, yet it basically had fees (aka expansions) you had to pay or you would get locked out of basic activities like nightfalls or leveling up, basically rendering all the money and time you spent useless. On top of that they introduced more and more things to buy from Eververse which was supposed to be PURELY COSMETIC. Live events that are free (if you bought the newest expansion, so you bet the expansion price includes live events), were abused to shove people Eververses RnG-stuff down their throat. Simple community requests like: Character re-customization, enought vault space (partially), unnerfing of things,... etc Took them months! Because there was no money to gain from it. Remember the HoW-era? It took them 9 f-ing months to release a f-ing weapon patch! I still feel like I was forced to buy all those expansions to be able to continue playing a game I Really loved playing. Yes, in the end it was always my decision to pay up, and I regret my own stupidity, having spent that much money to feed those shady bastards in Bungievisions top positions. And I feel really sorry for all the people hoping for D2 to get better, for it will just be another money milking machinery fueled by salty player tears ...

            • Destiny microtransactions are heading down a dark path of manipulation, addiction and greed in my opinion. I had TERRIBLE RNG while I played Destiny. I absolutely COULD NOT get RNG to drop the trespasser. I used a truckload of 3oC and farmed for countless hours. I used NLB & sidearms before it was meta. (Mind still blown at current meta & state of the game) I wanted it soooooooooooo bad. Now imagine how tempting it would have been to just buy it after all the failed grinding if given the option to do so. Here's my biggest concern... In Destiny 2 will Bungie manipulate the drop rate of specific items to encourage real money purchases? Example: Destiny 2 has a Gjallahorn. They give it a 0.001% drop rate while all other exotics have a 10% drop rate. This creates an ultimate weapon everyone wants but few people have. A month or two later Xur sells the elusive Gjallahorn + weapon skin combo for real money. I can imagine people would throw piles of money at the screen. Is this acceptable?

(Taken from my own response to another poster) I'm going to be honest, but when the F are we going to draw a line on this crap? Everyone keeps going with the whole oh it's not there yet garbage, I'll beg to differ. Case in point, this week has Zhalo, a gun that has been an endgame strikes and nightfall staple for months. So your telling me a gun that's like this being sold with Eververse currency as part of the cost is not crossing the line? What if it was suddenly Icebreaker here, a gun defining trials of Osiris as we speak. Will that be considered p2w if that happens? Or are we going to just simply ignore it as we have been? Who cares that you can get 15 free silver dust per week (only if you don't want the ornaments that is).The fact is that this "combo pack" to me crosses the line that should have been blocked when armor became a thing by the community. How far are we going to let this line drift? How far are we going to continue to make excuses for Bungie and this formula? Because by accepting this, we just give them the green light in future games for this type of crap. A first down is a first down. We can't keep giving them the field position because we are too blind to their plays. We need to hold them here, or give up the right to complain when they get in the end zone.

The line definitely is thinning, we were lead to believe Eververse would only ever be purely cosmetic, now it is impacting actual progression, gameplay and in some aspects, balancing; simply because now you do get a chance at a very well rolled piece of gear, at the cost of real money. It is getting scary, I just purchased the Pre-order Digital Deluxe Edition for Destiny 2, for example, at £90 from the PSN Store. Which should be a reasonable price for a game expecting to last at least 3-4 years; and yet I know I am looking at spending almost double to triple that in Micro-transactions that Activision & Bungie will drill into us overtime (to exploit our love for progression). We as gamers should know to stop feeding these fat-cats, but our passions are abused.

I'm very worried about the extent the microtransaction economy is going to intrude on the main game economy in D2. It was already walking a line with dusty engrams for me and this latest update made them more intrusive beyond even xur. The number one thing that will push me out of this game is if microtransactions force the grind of the game to unreasonable levels to encourage it. Which we are already seeing.

                  • The problem is that they're bundled, with no incentive to buy the bundle... you should be able to buy the weapon for marks, but that particular week, The bundle gives you the ornament at a silver discount!

                  • This game has two issues One the testing of weapons sales via eververse available to all for real money And the fact top teir weapons are hidden by the hardest content making it harder for most people to get Creates this need for lesser players to spend real money to remain competitive considering the game offers no accumulative way to get top teir gear at a slower rate Even some bounties force you to do them with other players We need more routes to attaining gear through game play, yes done routes maybe slower than others but that so as to allow every one a chance to get it through the game

Also, 30 coins it's more than for the weapon itself when Xür brings it alone, and Silver Dust still maintains it's price in comparison when the ornament comes alone itself. It's a waste, if it did bring the 2 ornaments and the weapon then it would be something interesting for people that do like both ornaments and the weapon but has none of them.

                  • The only thing you are buying with real money is silver. Silver is a currency You buy things with silver You don't buy the boxes with real money, you buy the silver. That is the legal loophole Activision uses.

                  • Paying for vanguard and crucible rep enhancers is paying to get weapons, armor etc faster so we're already over that line...

                    • I don't see the problem here. You're not paying real money for these bundles, why complain? Silver Dust is easy to get (you get 3 free treasures every week), and you can get LOADS of Strange Coins every week. Not to mention, the exotics drop like any normal exotic. No real-world money is being spent here, what's all complaining about?

                      • Always a slippery slope when real world money gets exchanged for less common gear. If it were a regularly sold legendary vendor weapon, perhaps a different story. But exotics... and pretty good ones at that... It has that air of pay to win and a cash grab at the same time. Granted, you can get them as drops and occasionally from Xur so there is a little bit of a gray area. But it is still a bit "hinky" being able to completely circumvent the farming process (provided you have the strange coins). Perhaps that is their way of justifying it...isn't just silver? IDK... Just doesn't set right with me.

                        • I agree. However if I can bring bungie logic into this, maybe they are thinking the following... This game is done. Let's starts the money making pre orders. Oh hey let's slyly sneak weapons in to eververse because they won't matter in Destiny 2. Or hey let's see how well this is received, not by the community but by the income it creates. Just my thoughts. Still agree it is bad for the long haul.

                        • I agree. There is NO reason to sell the bundles when you can buy the ornaments on there own. Just sell the weapon for the strange coins and have us buy the ornament seperate

                          • While it is a bit shady I think people need to step back and see what game they are playing. This is a PvE oriented game and therefore one single weapon isn't going to mean beating a raid (yeah I know everyone's going to bring up Gjhallerhorn (and yeah I spelled that wrong)). Point is there are a variety of weapons you may use to defeat an encounter so buying one weapon (which is obtainable without money) isn't the end of the world.

                          • Yeah, Bungie is obviously testing to see how much they can get away with. Though, it's less "pay to win" and moreso "pay to skip the grind".
