Well, I think the fact is in their wording, "early access" you're paying for a longer beta essentially. People who pay will most likely get an extra week through "early access". You watch, it'll turn out to be 1 day. 😂

to be fair they could do a closed beta where random players are chosen but pre order is a confirmed spot and a few days early

There's no purchase necessary. If you preorder the game you'll get early access but there will be an open beta as well.
