is some of the book not retroactive? i"ve got entire pages of stuff i've already done not showing as completed

MOST of the nodes are not retroactive. Almost all nodes outside of Commemoration and Story are the 'Must be true from here on out' in order to unlock. Most of these, such as the levels and faction ranks unlock immediately because they are -currently- true. The rest, you'll need to unlock from this point on, such as with Titan melee kills, etc. It doesn't matter if you've punched 5000000 enemies to death before AoT, the counter didn't start until you got the book.

Have you erased characters to make new ones that haven't yet completed the record book tasks? I don't know if that's the issue and surely, it shouldn't be,but I've been wondering about it...
