i havent read any halo books at all but this always was in my mind. What stopped the UNSC from making more? was reach were they made them and even if it was why not start it on earth or something start Spartan 4's
Money wouldnt matter when theres a human genecide and even though they could have made money and or tax money and started more
BESIDES MONEY!
I understand tha Reach was the main Spartan base or whatever and that the economy was in the dumpster do to the covenant but they shouldve rquesition high ranked officers to be spartans and also the spartan project was never labled failed (actually i dont know if it was) and how could it fail spartans kicked ass they shouldve tried hard to bring it back either that or their more 2 it then we know
cant remeber who mentioned time but he makes a great point how many years did it take to produce a spartan.
and shouldnt they have mass produced spartans when the needed it most and why put them all on reach thats stratgically stupid if their glassing the damn planet you get the hell out of their and back up earth because god knows when there ganna find earth and that really only took like 10 years to find earth (Halo 2) and why only save chief there had to be somthing else to it i know it
Would you rather Kick Ass and screw money or die arguing over costs humanity could care less about money at a time like that but i understand resources and time are the main variables
Someone mentioned someone named Dr.Hasley who i presume is the woman who came up wth spartans and said she was likely dead.she would have shared how to creat it with fellow scientist and or the UNSC in general because it wouldnt be classified because their were no human v human fighting
Someone said hasley was the keeper of secrets if he kept the secrts of how to make a spartan and shes dead,if she is dead i dont know never read any of the books< then shes the stupidest woman i have ever heard of and good luck putting humanity in crash course with death.
And if you havent noticed i am actively updating this so i can prove a greater point
now someone said that spartan 3's were "disposable soliders" who the hell says that super soldiers are disposable and sure they were suicide missions but who the hell were they ganna send an army of marines.
And if dr.hasley was on onyx and she made more there had to be more soldiers which i do recall there were 3 spartans on onyx in the book never eread it but i heard about it.and if spartan 3's had a better efficincy rate why not sky rocket production into the mass production of spartans and also increasing the gene pool that could be used.
Matu Flp Krawfe made a comment saying this is fiction which is completly true and i love all the points hes making and stuff but im looking at this from the point of view that this is nonfiction that this isnt a story bungie made up what if this was real and what substantial things blocked the creation of new spartans.
Bungie you guys made the best -blam!- story line ever. you can interpret reach in so many ways because it hasnt been covered as much as the other parts of the halo universe so thats why i started this topic
I said besides money because i already understand that money and time were the issues and or main variable. The gene pool was also one to
Why not enhance genes to fit people into that gene pool or reproduce those who have said genes.Geregor mendel found these things out using the punett square so why not put that in to increase the amount of people with the genes

Your employeer walks up to you and says, "Listen, I need you to work for absolutely nothing for the next decade or so because space aliens are coming to destroy the human race. Ok?" Sure we understand that, in the context of the Halo story, humanity could have been doomed if they didnt do that, but taken from the perspective of an average person it would be completely different.
well, both worlds that housed spartans during their training were destroyed, and the programs creator and both trainers are all missing. also the followup leader of the spartan program died. itd be difficult to create more, considering all those factors.
actually the creator of the SPARTAN III program(Cant remember his name(ackerson was it?))was KIA Dr Halsey's AI sent a fake Request to be moved to the front line, to the UNSC

Wait wait wait! Let me get this straight. Humanity is facing possible total annihilation and companies are still worried about making money. I thought humanity would ban together and work for free. Guess greed never dies, even in the face of Armageddon.
-
Their MJOLNIR armor alone costs the same as making a Destroyer. Now include all that training and weapons. Next is how long they take to train. So instead they mass produced Spartan-III's.
-
first of all, it took the spartans there entire lives to train. to do that again would take a while. there was quite a few of them but plenty died or were not "fit" for combat after the aubmentations. and money...yes it stll exist's then, and they needed if for resources. yes they could have taken control of everything and made the resources technically free...but the civilains were already on the verge of riots and some already in rebellion.

Well, when I think about it, it was more than just ground missions. Where they were more successful on their missions, quite a number of them died in orbital combat, which was the bane of the UNSC, since the Covenant were far superior in that degree.
-
Just because there's a war on doesn't mean the entire economy comes to halt. Every Spartan costs about the same as a Marathon-Class cruiser. And trust me, if they made Spartan IVs, than they would probably be about as much as a Supercarrier.

Money, at first. The Spartan II project was originally designed to suppress rebels fighting the UNSC. Without the project, it was predicted that the UNSC would dissolve due to infighting and humanity would no longer be united under one government. The project was a highly secret black op. Children fitting the appropriate genetic and personally markers were kidnapped from various planets and trained in the art of fighting, tactics and war. Then following puberty they were augmented to increase their abilities behind normal humans. This is why they could not just use their own solders. Though that was the idea for the original Spartan project (ORION Project) For their original intent they were more then enough to suppress any internal threat. However, that all changed when the Covenant declared war. Suddenly the Spartans had a new use. Unfortunately the SII project was not developed for full scale war and their just were not enough Spartans to deal with this new threat. Training a new group would take at least decade, maybe longer and that was only if they could find people fitting the genetic and personality traits needed. Also the project would take massive resources that the UNSC needed to divert to other areas. Remember the Spartans are only good on the ground and the Covenant preferred Space Battles. That was when the SIII project came into play. The SIII project was an considered a cheaper alternative solution to the SIIs. Primarily consisting of orphans and refugees from Covenant invaded planets the idea was to cheaply train and equip this new generation of Spartans to send on high risk / high reward assignments. These assignments couldn't be given to the SIIs because their was little hope of survival and regular Marines couldn't do it because these missions were necessary for survival in the war. advances in medical technology allowed for a higher survival rate then when the SIIs were augmented. They were trained on other planets besides Reach. Onix if I remember was one of their main training grounds. Reach was the UNSC's primary shipyard and Headquarters of the UNSC military. It was also where all new weapons and ideas were produced and tested. It was considered safe not only because of it's defenses but also because of it's location: Deep in the inner colonies on Earth's "doorstep" It was also the home of the SIIs. When the Covenant attacked all available Spartans were deployed to Reach. Why? Because it was predicted that humanity would only last a few more years in the war. If Reach, one of the UNSC's primary shipyards, fell that timeframe would shrink to months. [Edited on 07.05.2010 9:52 PM PDT]

I know you don't think money is a reason, but it is. It's expensive to make Spartans and even with possible extinction, money still matters to everyone. Also, resources. You can't make that armor out of just anything and considering the covies were glassing everything they could find, materials were a tad scarce. Another thing is, the program was a bit controversial. This obviously didn't stop the UNSC considering they went ahead with S-IIIs, but it did hinder them slightly. Then there's the fact that S-IIs were chosen based upon their genes and it was a bit hard to find the perfect specimens for the experiment. Then comes the training that lasts years and years.... Basically, the UNSC didn't really stop the program, it just came to a crawl considering all of the circumstances. They just couldn't manufacture them quickly.
-
Money is required for everything. Even when facing extinction.
-
Something tells me that in the face of extinction money won't be as much of an issue. If people refused to work to make Spartans to save the world... they're retarded. And you can't just "make" a Spartan. Spartans are trained from a young age. I'm assuming it's just lack of time and resources to spawn all these weapons. It's bad enough they have to make ammunition and weapons and vehicles and what not.
