So I took quite a long break from Overwatch. Been playing other games and just haven't been in the mood for it for a couple months. But I recently came back to it to find Quick Play and Arcade overrun with salty people or just douchebags in general.
It used to be about just having fun. Even making friends with the enemy sometimes and just -blam!-ing around. Playing characters that you think are fun. I know competitive has been cancerous since the beginning. But QP? What happened? That part of the game used to be one of the best communities I've ever been in. Did something happen to make competitive cancer overflow into QP and Arcade?
Now I'll find people yelling at others over mics, rage quitting, or getting mad about -blam!-ing team Comp IN NO LIMITS MODE! And now I can never make friends with the enemy at all either. I used to just be able to wave a few times at enemies and get them to be nice and spray and crouch spam, now all that happens is I just get killed and teabbagged over and over even when I'm not playing the objective and just saying hi at the enemy spawn.
(And I know I know. It's a game where you kill the enemy so I shouldn't expect anything less. But that used to be part of the charm of Arcade and QP for me. And now that's just gone suddenly)
Is it just me, or have you guys experienced that as well?

1 ReplyI finally caved and bought this game. Arcade good, quick play bad. Got it
-
3 RepliesOverwatch in general is just toxic and should be forgotten by everyone.
-
1 ReplyIt's because all the toxic competitive players warm up in Quick Play. As for the toxic people in arcade? They just like ruining your game.
The luckiest seven you will ever meet
-
I only get salty when the entire enemy team is composed of Ana's in the no cooldown file browser games.
-
I don't play qp anymore because decent amount of people don't care about the team composition there
-
I like playing Widow and have a decent accuracy with her on console, but I always get one guy screaming at me or something because I pick her. I don't play competitive, so why should I treat QP as some sort of sacred pseudo-comp?
-
I feel that way about Chaos in Rocket League.
-
2 RepliesArcade is the place for goofing off. QP is for warm ups.
-
I love enjoying a good game of quick play, but when you have dicks and trolls and people who pick shitty team comps and suck, it will always be frustrating.
-
in my opinion, waving and making friends is for skirmishes and there are no friends on the battlefield

Edited by Kirby235711: 3/15/2017 10:38:32 PMA good portion of the casual player base has gone to custom games, unfortunately.

That's pretty much every FPS with competitive PVP. Its a toxic brew of adolescent male hormones. Insecurity...and WAAY too much competitiveness that has never been tempered by having been taught sportsmanship. Because many people turn to competing in video games because that's the only arena in their life where they get to compete. Ninety-percent of the culture of sportsmanship is about learning to put a leash and a muzzle on that kind of toxic competitiveness. Hope Solo tried to do something that happens every day in competitive shooters. She tried to send some trash-talking "hate mail" to the Swedish soccer team to soothe her anger and disappointment at losing. But in organized sports, that shit isn't tolerated....and USA Women's Soccer basically smacked her in the back of the head, and told her to shut up and grow up. That being said......A competitive shooter is not a good place to look for the sort of light-hearted, sandbox type fun you seem to want. So you might want to give some thought to playing a different game.

I used to rage about the sweaty gameplay in quick play which is basically all I do in Overwatch. Then I realized it just wasn't great for my blood pressure so I learned to stop, take a deep breath, and assess what was actually happening in a game. Sure, you're going to encounter some pretty immature people in any online experience but you still have control over yourself. It definitely is a bummer having to deal with it but after a couple matches they will likely be gone and forgotten. You can't hope to change them, so the best thing to do is ignore them and move on.

6 RepliesAfter bastion's buff. Bastion took over comp so sweaty, toxic players moved to quickplay/arcade to see the "Victory" screen for once only to realize thats not gonna happen.
-
I stopped playing in January. Just got bored with it and some of the scummy antics some players get up to. Might try to come back soon after horizon and mass effect.

2 RepliesWhat do you play on
-
when did overwatch become a game kek.
-
14 RepliesPlays a competitive game. Gets upset when people are competing. It's literally pvp only. Casual

2 RepliesI play overwatch everyday for hours and I never seem to run into toxic things like this. Most people just argue over chat but everyone still does their job regardless if a teammate is being toxic. I assume you're on console so all I can say is maybe its toxic because more children and teens are on console maybe. As for PC since the start of overwatch i haven't ran into any children or young people being toxic. When playing comp I get a toxic dps main once in a while complaining about heals but they either leave team chat or shut up after they realize no one is paying attention to them. The only time I've had toxic teammates back to back in comp was when I was plat but now that im in masters my teammates seem more cooperative and less salty when we lose or draw.
-
1 ReplyI never use my mic in Quick Play.
-
2 RepliesI can't speak from experience, but top 500 is apparently one of the most toxic communities out there, like up there with LoL comp toxicity.
-
I try this every time I run into a hero in battlefront since you are dead anyways when they see you most of the time, I'll teabag the air and do emotes but they kill me 100% of the time.

8 RepliesEdited by Murph Tha Smurf: 3/16/2017 1:27:10 PMYou just got unlucky. There's cancerous people everywhere (all gamemodes, that is), but I play comp and QP daily and as long as I'm chill usually they're chill too.
-
Arcade is the spot for goofing off. QP pretty much turned into the "practice" for Competitive when they made the mode non-stackable. People get frustrated though because there are a lot of shitty lone wolves in this game and people are tired of pretty much being at a disadvantage due to the high amount of people that obviously aren't meant to play a "team" based game as they are only out for themselves and play every mode as CoD Deathmatch.
-
9 RepliesOverwatch sucks that's why
-
Well people really want those wins for those lootboxes so instead of playing 1v1s they ruin other peoples day in other game modes. If they're being super toxic block and report them. Personally I barely find those but that's just my luck.
