Do people hate kids in this game?
I'm 14, and having grown up on the internet, I've seen a lot of squeakers on online games like this. But do the community actually respect people of my age?
Seeing as the new update is soon, I wanted to post this whenever I get to teaming up with people to do the raid

Squeeking is not that bad... is over squeeking, every half second, and squeeking about everything else but the game

Just as long as you use your indoor voice and don't try to talk over everyone we are fine. There are a few other things but those are the two most common for the "younger" peoples

I personally don't dislike playing with children in the game. The problem I would have is them not playing it when they need to. By that I mean ia focus on the game and not mess around when we need to get stuff done. I dont mind helping people, but I like to spend some time on my own and with friends so i'm not gonna sit around in a raid, nf, etc. if we're making no progress in said activity. This applies to people of all ages to me.

9 RepliesI can't speak for the community but I do not hate the younger players. (Called kids from this sentence pnwards for the sake of simplicity) I often give them a chance & usually by treating them the same as I treat everyone else (which means showing them respect as well) seem to earn/win thier respect enough to where they cease & desist their obnoxious acts, and listen to me almost as like a big brother figure. I've been able to ask them to: "Cut the crap." "Focus" "Stop the Music." "Calm Down." "Be respectful & polite." "Stop breathing into the mic." And they listen. That said, I do let them have their fun, I let them be obnoxious, I let them chat/vent a mile a minute....when the time in appropriate/nothing is going on. Over time they learn/seem to know when they are annoying me/getting out of hand and often calm down before I have to say anything. In exchange for me tolerating them being kids, they also know to behave when we do serious activities. Many of my RL friends were surprised to find out the ages of some of the people I group with. That said, I give them praise when they do good, & offer respectful advice when they mess up or need help. I have been there when they shed tears. I also find that I protect them from other older players. Not by intention though, I dislike disrespect in general. (I'm also cursed as an empath so maybe thats why?) The kids are the ones who have taken me Flawless for my grimiore. They even try to take me again every weekend. I just dislike pvp and often turn em down. They drag me into Raids & Nightfalls when the going gets tough it seems. (ugh...) I have said it many times on these forums. [i]"Hatred breeds hatred."[/i] All the: No squeakers, No kids. I leave when a kid joins the raid/fireteam. All the negativity actuslly MAKES the kids into the very thing you hate. Kids are like wet clay, they are waiting to be shaped. And while many will never admit it; when they brag, talk big, lie, & etc. Its because they want acceptance, they often find the older gamers to be "cool" and want to be accepted. The rejection hurts them & pain turns to anger, which turns into hate. Then you get the disrespectful kids who cuss all the time, troll others, & are a nuisance to everyone. It takes patience, a cool head, & the willingness to accept them to often shape them into upstanding players. And believe it or not, once befriended they will go to war for you. Haha, my so called: "Squeak Squad" (my RL friends call them that.) has saved my ass more times than I care to admit. Folks just need to realize that they add to the problem/fuel the fire with their behavior. It's our job (not required though) as the older gamers/generation to help mold the new generation. We can mold them to be respectful & more like us...or we can mold them to be the very things we hate.

I am 12 and always join raid teams that say "no sqeakers". I keep my mic of for most of it, just to prove to them that I am capable, and at the end boss fight start talking do they can see that a squeaker CAN do well

No. I play with anyone off lfg for sweats. Sure sometimes there annoying, but that's just there youth. Doesn't make them any worse a player.

It seems like a lot of older gamers are incredibly prejudiced against anyone under 18 despite the fact that people 18+ are just as annoying in my experience. I've never seen a "squeaker" take one - two hours just trying to clear jumping puzzles. Like, it's a basic gaming skill too.

For me it does not matter what age you are, if you give off good vibes and rock a positive mentality then I'll happily play with you. This game is so much better when you are playing with a group of friends. Heck, I've played with kids your age that are wise beyond their years and they sometimes teach me! What I don't like is negativity or someone who tries to purposely trigger me to act out. If that happens you will be kicked immediately regardless of age. So no, I have no disdian or hate towards kids. We're all gamers after all.

Every kid <13 should have a Darth Vader mode enabled on their mic, and know what < symbol means, IMO.

Those are my simple requirments 1. Must have good mic. 2. Not be annoying 3. Must know what you are doing 4. If you recently asked anyone if they had games on their phone and you had mucus running down your nose, then you are not allowed

Age is not necessarily an indication of maturity. As long as you are not being obnoxious, screaming in my ear every time you get shot, or actively trying to trigger me. I am ok with playing with anybody of any age.

I do. I also hate playing with adults who hate on kids because of their age, as long as their experienced and moderately respectful, I really don't care about their age. Once I was doing a raid, and there was an adult who kept yelling at a squeaky kid. It actually seemed like the guy hated that poor kids guts. The best part was the kid was way better than the adult at raiding and we had to kick him. Mostly because of his bitching XD

People just hate kids in games. It's something people who game from a young age simply have to deal with. Take your lumps and move on.
