Can i choose not to keep my appearance in Destiny 2?

Honestly, 3 years ago I don't think I had any sense. My guardians looked horrible. Can I keep the benefits of being a returning player and change my aesthetics? Just curious.

Just delete your characters and make new ones before Destiny 1 ends. What difference does it make anyway, nothing important carries over.
