Always avoid religious/extremely political topics unless specifically asked to write about them. Avoid doing something that will insult someone in some way.
Here's some ideas off the top of my head, good luck!
Business in the US. A good topic is talking about how the consumer market is controlled by very few businesses. Some research into companies like Pepsi and Coke may surprise you.
Education, whether or not the common core is working, and maybe offer solutions to the things that you feel are wrong.
Solutions to renewable energy. Look into the the pros and cons of solar, geothermal, nuclear, etc., and compare and contrast.
Human space travel, discuss the value it has and whether or not that substantiates the costly nature of it.
How the internet has greatly changed some facets of society. Social interaction, the music industry, job market, etc. and the consequences of these changes. (People being less social, musicians making less money while more music is being created, job market shifting around)
Apple vs. Microsoft, whether or not flush design supersedes open design.
How architecture reflects contemporary feelings, you can use Brutalist architecture as an example in relation to the world events that were going on when it was a popular style.
Whether or not genetically modifying human cells is right, research CRISPR.
Security dangers associated with the internet, perhaps comment on how companies which create backdoors in their encryption are endangering their customers.
Price-gouging during natural disasters/price-hikes in the pharmaceutical industry.
The evolution of memes and whether or not they are meaningful reflections of society.
The negative affects that could arise from future nuclear fusion reactors creating so much energy at a fraction of the cost, energy sector workers losing their jobs, less money being circulated, etc, and whether or not the proponents of nuclear fusion supersede the costs.
That's all I got. Hope I helped.
Argue that the government is subservient to the people, and that it (along with other individuals) has no power to restrict the right to defend oneself from harm with any means available, including firearms.
Argue that restricting firearms, pepper spray, and other items that can be used in a defensive capacity is only punishing law abiding citizens, and not criminals, who will achieve their goal through other means.
