Let me clear this up before starting. Once you make a custom shader it would be locked in forever. If it's from the end game or from the beginning it would still be locked in forever. After finishing it you can't fudge with it anymore. Other shaders would still matter because no one likes to wear just one shader. That exclusive custom shader may not look good on one set of gear but lovely on another. That's why we have a ton of other shaders because some look better than others on different armor sets. One shader exclusive to your name only. One shader per character that can't be transferred between characters or if Bungie decided to allow it I wouldn't be against it either.
I want to, upon creating my guardian for D2, get to also, along side creating my guardian, get 1 shader to customize exclusive to my guardians.
After finishing your guardian for D2 you get to move on to a shader creator inventory.
Upon entering the shader creator inventory is a highly detailed color wheel. Where you can layer colors on top of each other to create a unique color.
For example if you put a dark yellow-orange color over a lighter blue color you get a camo green color.
So each shader has three separate rings that apply to different areas on your armor.
You would be able to customize each of the three rings on a shader. There are only three rings on a shader.
Also, after making your custom colors on each of the three rings of the shader, you would get to choose from a pre-select group of options of different textures.
For example, a shiny texture, a matte texture, a worn texture, a metal texture, a cloth texture, etc. You can't use any textures currently in use by the devs. So no cheating shaders!
For example, your finished shader could be a combination of colors that look like green camo inspired, but with a metal texture all over your armor when equipped.
I would personally make a girly shader. *wink*
After creating your custom shader for your guardian it would be locked in forever until you either deleted your character or made a new character.
3 shaders exclusive to 3 of your guardians. Not transferable.
What do you think? Would you want to create one shader for your guardian for D2?
Another concern is, what would make people want any of the other shaders in the game? Because, some game shaders have effects. For example some shaders glow in the dark like Candlelight and Glohoo shader. Custom shaders would have no effects whatsoever just color combos to mess around with.
Also you wouldn't be able to name your shader it would go into a number randomizer. No foul names. Only numbers!
[b]Edit: I love when games let YOU choose your own style and not have to be subjected to the tastes of the developers

Edit 2: I like this idea too it seems more feasible if it was an endgame reward. Not my idea please see below👇🏼
Idea by, Agent Neeb
I think it would work better as an endgame reward for a few reasons:
1. In Destiny you couldn't even equip shaders until you were level 20.
2. It would incentivize challenging game modes later.
3. Starting gear might look good with one color scheme, but your favorite endgame gear (you know, the stuff that you would wear the most) could look very bad with that color scheme you liked so much back then. If it's permanent, then that raises more concerns that this point addresses.
EDIT 3:
Meanwhile at the wrecked Tower...
Guardian1, "Is that your custom shader dude?"
Guardian 2, "Yeah! You like it?"...

2 RepliesEdited by BLNC1989: 2/28/2017 5:20:28 PMNo shader period. Should just be a "paint kiosk" in the tower where you can go and change the colors of your armor AND GUNS as many times as you like....... that's customization. Hell make it where you have to level up or complete tasks to unlock colors on the color wheel but shaders is to limited.

Er we should have been able to apply individual shaders to individual armour piece earned. So helm in one, gauntlets in another, chest and boots.

3 RepliesNot sure why I clicked on this topic as I don't care about custom shaders, but I did... Good lord. Type much? I read nothing 💡

I'd pay for a custom shaders that allowed me to pick a primary, secondary and possibly tertiary colour, what pattern and whether the colours are matte or shiny.

You don't how long I've been waiting for someone to say this.

4 RepliesD2 isn't happening. Chill out with D2 posts. It's a myth. Half life 3 will be out before D2

Nah, I'm good.

*fixed original question "can we remove shaders for a color wheel now that you have more system memory to work with and a new game engine."
-
I like the idea of an exotic shader. You get to pick the 3 colors and the effects; texture/glowing/brightness/opacity, etc.

I just want there to be a plastic surgeon. All of this Technology and no one in the Tower or the City knows how to make an Awoken into an Exo or change someone's appearance?

4 RepliesEdited by S3CT0R SE7EN: 2/28/2017 1:41:35 AMSorry man but current gen consoles are holding D2 back from doing this.

I'm all for adding the ability to customize not only the shaders, but emblems as well - however, it should be from the get go and not locked once it's created nor should it be tied to a certain activity.

1 ReplyWell my Warlock already looks like something from warframe so I'm good

would love to have the option to create my own shader using a color wheel

1 ReplyI want my guardians to be orange and green! I had to wait 3 years for the "Perilous Quest" shader

1 ReplyWhat would be yhe point of having shaders if you could just change your colors freely
-
What about being able to give each armour price a different shader? Sure you'd probably get some monstrous creations but you'd also have a lot more space for creativity too... be more unique likely as well... Hell maybe there could be an item or something that lets you change to colour or you can only change the colour of certain terms after lvling it up enough...

Nice, but what about copying shaders?

Custom ship, sparrow and ghost sharers would be nice as well.

5 RepliesWhat would be the point of literally any other shader if you can just make a shader that looks like another?

I think it would be pretty cool to be able to custom color each individual piece of gear. If I play as my hunter. Maybe I want my helmet, chest and legs to have one color scheme. Maybe my cape have a different color scheme or reverse from what it would normally be without the customization option. But that's just me.

Introduce color pallets that you can earn/buy and can add to your shader customization area
