Here you go, guys. The official first chapter of Worlds Apart. ------------------------------------ [b]Worlds Apart[/b] [i]Chapter One: BlitzRunner[/i] Waking Ruins, Ishtar Sink, Venus. Present Day. 0425 hours. "Eyes up, Guardian!" The Ghost materialized inside the crashed ship, scanning the lifeless body of Toshiro Inoue. A few seconds later, the body vanished, to be replaced by a now-'living' Guardian. Toshiro had been reborn! "Oh, thank goodness. We need to move, and fast." Beeping frantically, the Ghost transmatted Toshiro out of the ship, then scanned the wreck for anything that could be used as a weapon. Toshiro, not being used to the sensation of dying and coming back to life, raised his hand to shield his eyes from the sunlight. "What do you mean... what even is this place? Where am I... and what are YOU?" "I'm a Ghost... oh, forget it, there's no time to explain!" The Ghost, now speaking in the voice of Angel, the ship's computer, readied up the only weapons it could find within the ship: a small handgun, a broken rifle, and a short sword. "Here, take these, and get to cover. There's a cave nearby that we can hunker down in. I'll tell you everything there. Go!" Noticing now that his helmet display was completely different than before, Toshiro looked down at the ground, then at the gun in his hands. "Angel...what... this is all so sudden. But if there's anything I know, it's how to survive!" As the thrill of battle came over him, Toshiro made his way to the caves, firing at - and taking down quite a few of - the Vex units that had warped in. "These things aren't even from Earth... so I guess that anomaly was a warp hole? Either way, what happened to my ship?" "You crash landed. This is Venus. We're in danger. And you need to get out of here. I'm certain there's something at the research station nearby that we could use to repair your ship, but for the moment, you're going to have to wait here. I've never tried to transmat something this big before. Stay put, ok?" The Ghost flew back out, dodging low and keeping itself hidden, before popping up near the HL1 and scanning over it once more. "Right.... linking up to the Traveler, cross link to the city shipwright.... and... done!" Before his very eyes, Toshiro's ship vanished into thin air. As the Ghost made its way back, Toshiro had swapped out the pistol for the rifle, and was checking out the scope on it. "Why did they even include a sniper rifle onboard that ship?" "No idea, but if you know how to use it, now would be a good time. Hydra incoming!" As the air became thick with smoke, and the electrostatic particles started appearing to indicate another Vex warp, Toshiro shouldered the rifle and aimed into the center of it. "Shoot the eye as soon as it shows up!" "Got it. Ready.... now!" No sooner had the mechanical beast materialized, Toshiro had fired his sniper, placing a well balanced slug into the brain of the creature, disabling it instantly. As it exploded, the other units all warped away, and Toshiro felt a surge of energy flow through him. "Great! You beat it. And look, your Light is awakening!" The Ghost scanned him, beeping a few times. "Interesting. I've never seen this light pattern....You're obviously a Hunter, and it's Arc, but you're not a Bladedancer... I'm going to have to check you more closely... hang on." Without warning, the Ghost vanished, and then Toshiro heard its voice from within his own head! "Look, I know this feels strange and all, but it's the only way I'm going to figure anything out about you. And I suppose, if you want to, you can just call me Angel like your ship's computer. Anyway... grenades... melee abilities.... super... interesting. This is all new to me, even. I've never seen a guardian like you." Rematerializing, Angel floated a few feet above him. "I've come up with a name for your subclass. You are a BlitzRunner." "Blitz Runner? What's that...? Sounds like some kind of cheesy action hero." Toshiro chuckled at the name, but could feel a sort of familiar energy filling him. Looking down at his hands, and at the short blade strapped to his waist, he nodded, as if accepting the unspoken mission that he had been given... He was a Guardian. His new goal was to protect the Last City... and he was a BlitzRunner. --------------------- This might be short but I'm not really up to posting a novel.
