Suros Regime, being an auto rifle, is effective at ranges sidearms and handcannons are not, or shouldn't be. Therefore, if you're within sidearm range, either intentionally or unintentionally, you likely made a tactical error or were outplayed. Although it doesn't apply to Destiny, or video games in general, the purpose of a handgun is: 1.) For concealability or where rifles are not permitted or are tactically unsound. 2.) As a backup weapon should your primary weapon, typically a rifle, have a malfunction you can't clear quickly enough. 3.) And half-jokingly, to fight your way to the rifle you shouldn't have dropped.
