Destiny depends too much on PvP to make set bonuses a thing. Diablo III is primarily a PvE game.
TF2 tried to do it and failed badly. Valve had to remove them from the game because they couldn't get it right.
The only way that set bonuses can work is if they have very minor perks like increased rep or bonus glimmer.
Otherwise, players would just dogpile onto whatever set has the best stats for PvP, which wouldn't be very good design at all.

Edited by Swiftlock: 2/22/2017 10:19:34 PMTF2 used to have armor set bonuses, but they were removed from the game. Diablo is balanced with a huge focus on PvE. PvP isn't as important. Destiny is balanced with a huge focus on PvP.

Diablo got it right but you don't PVP in that game. Certain setups will dominate.
