The nerf to blink is unnecessary, poorly thought out, and totally ridiculous

This is hard for me to post. I'm a big believer of "play the game you have, not the one you want". Complaining about whatever is O/P at the time is stupid. There will always be a flavour of the month. Adapt and use what's best. But I also enjoy playing all three classes and change builds around. Blink was always a bad choice in PVP and you really saw little of it in competitive play. Why they would nerf it is beyond me. They presented all this data for their changes and I get it. But blink - no data or reasoning was given. Currently, blink is simply unusable even just as a laugh in any competitive game. The loss of radar for that long is crippling when you're playing against people who are not potatos. Can anyone explain to me why they would make an entire movement ability completely unusable? Is there anyone at all who thought blink was O/P pre patch? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

  • I honestly mastered blink and shit for crucible...I now don't even use the subclass after the patch....bungie half knows what they're doing...taking a skip out of the vows was fine...they need to tweak the shadestep a bit...they shouldn't disable tracking grenades completely...but partially....I like how auto rifles are making a comeback...they did right by shotguns...trials is getting ridiculous with the whole icebreaker and no land counter to special ammo...also they need to separate pvp and pve changes...they rebalance weapons for no reason...they simply always make 1 weapon that's a little OP and then change everything else because of it....wormwood is more exotic than trespasser somehow...I just don't get how you have all this money and people focusing on this game and don't understand anything...veterans know more about proper changes than their staff...it's sad...but w.e...anyone who's been playing knows to put no faith in bungie....this game has so much potential....destiny 2 will make or break the franchise in terms of long term players...depending on how it plays out I may not be around for it

  • The blink nerf has actually made me curious. Josh Hamrick said on Twitter that it was done because lower-skilled players had problems dealing with an opponent using blink (https://twitter.com/Josh_Hamrick/status/831924179125493760). What I want to know is where were they getting this feedback from? I consider myself a pretty big Destiny fan and I am on these forums and the Destinythegame subreddit on a daily basis. I have not seen one single post in the last year that even complained once about blink. Not one. Is there some special forum that only newer or lower skilled players go to where they provide feedback?

    • My thing is if they nerfed blink a movement modification should they not do the same to shade-step and twilight garrison. If your going to make life crap for blinkers make it crap for everyone doing something other than just jumping. It's all just as cheap.

      • Bladedancer got murdered. Their super got destroyed by basically every other super before the patch, and now blade lost hungering blade... and oh by the way, we're gonna kill blink for it too. Blade doesn't have a triple jump, so blink is the perk to have imo, and now all situational awareness is lost when using it. It is basically still good for running away, but not for offensive maneuvers. Bungie has obviously decided that they don't want Blade to be a part of Destiny anymore. Why don't they just remove the subclass at this point?

          • My one thing with all of the changes to cooldown and disabling radar and I don't remember if distance was ever nerfed but anyway my point: Blink is a JUMP, just like warlocks have their floofing, Titans have their jet packs and hunters have their jumps. Blink should be no different and you shouldn't be penalized for using a specific jump it just doesn't make sense.

          • One thing that bothers me about the blink nerf is that it's considered to be an "evade" for warlocks by many in comparison to shadestep and twilight garrison, but I dont see those things losing hud or radar. As someone who uses shadestep and garrison a lot I hope that doesn't change but I feel its a bit unfair to warlocks at this point.

Blink was already nerfed a long time ago when they slowed movement of blink and time it took to ready weapons after you blinked. Now they take away radar for some time. This is insane

            • Same thing with hungering blade and QuickDraw. They were just like "I got killed by it once, so it's op. Nerf it"

            • It is only poorly thought out if they didn't want to remove Blink in the first place. How many people did you see using Blink in the Crucible? And now?

            • Yes the Blink nerf was unneeded thank you for letting people know what they already do. Bungie doesn't care. See? I can tell people what they already know to, you and me will get along fine.

            • It wasn't op but probably a Dev. from bungie can't track and shoot at the same time and then he asked for a nerf.

Yeah seriously. I never played blade dancer in year one but I did play voidwalker with blink which was essentially the same. I can say that after patch 2.0 blink was absolute garbage, the nerf to recovery was totally unjustified. Now with the nerf I am seriously questioning bungie's ability to interpret data and to make decisions on it. I guess blink was "overused" according to their spread sheets and they wanted to completely eradicate it. What needs to happen now is they have to significantly increase the draw time on weapons (minus shotguns) after blink to year one levels and undo the most recent nerf.

            • blink hasnt been "OP" for a long time. you used to be able to blink longer distances and you can fire your weapon or throw grenades or melee immediately after blinking. but then they shortened distance and applied an ability cooldown post blink. it was fine the way it was. i loved blink. its a main reason i pvp voidwalker instead of say stormcaller. it really didnt need any change at all. but whatever. i still play. i still blink. its still useful but it does get difficult when you check the radar before you blink, then blink but you cant see where the enemy is after teleporting to a new place on the map while they are moving around as well.

Fully agree I saw that changes were made and thought "oh maybe they took away radar for a second but took off the blink cool down or decreased the weapons ready time." but no.. It was just a straight kick to the teleporting testies. And no data was given. No one said "well there wasn't a compelling choice to not use blink.. We wanted to promote other jump types"

            • I was surprised with the blink nerf, I actually though bungie would have had shadestep lined up for some attention as they never like anything that is over used.

            • I agree. Why use Blink now? It puts you at a huge disadvantage with the radar being disabled.

            • Blink nerf was 100% called for! If they didn't nerf it then blade dancer wouldn't of been 100% shit on.
just in case you didn't pick up on it, I was completely joking.
• I don't know man, Blink is legitimately the most unique and challenging movement mode in the game. I for one am pretty happy with it regardless of the nerf. For one, it's called BLINK, as in temporarily closing one's eyes, so in that sense removing HUD makes sense. It allows practice for moving and tracking enemies without radar, which is also a helpful skill. The radar in this game is op af. Doesn't it also make you feel like a badass every time you teleport, clear your mind and your HUD, then reengage for a Blink Strike or a snipe or what-have-you? Sure it would have been nice if they'd slightly buffed it as a trade-off but we can't have everything.
