This was supposed to be an epic space fantasy. Now, the performance of every weapon and subclass in the game is constantly held hostage by one game mode that has nothing to do with the core elements of the game's universe. I hated it when it launched, and it becomes clear with every patch that trials is always the priority, leaving all the PvE players out in the cold.
Bungie, you are going to have to make some pretty substantial changes to how trials effects destiny if you expect any pre-orders for Destiny 2.
Edit: for those who claim that trials is what keeps destiny going, I'm going to have to fundamentally disagree.
Point #1: The thing that keeps destiny going is the thing that people hate the most about it: RNG. At its core, Destiny is a loot based shooter with an RPG foundation. The gameplay loop of loot based games centers on gaining power for your character to take on tougher challenges, to get better loot. The loot itself is the reward system that the game is based upon.
Point # 2: Bungie employees have specifically stated that Trials is intended for only 1% if the player base.
Making changes based on 1% of the player base that undermine the core gameplay loop underlying what destiny is poisons the entire game. The loot reward system loses its power when players are always skeptical of a particular build or item getting nerfed in the future. The anticipation and excitement of getting that loot drop from a raid boss is diminished based on the constant looming threat of nerfs and enthusiasm for the core gameplay loop wanes.
Overwatch works as a competitive game because the characters are "built" for you and there is no diversity or loot. Halo worked because a sniper rifle is a sniper rifle and a needler is a needler. Lack of variety is fundamental to creating a solid competitive game. It is also antithetical to loot based games like Diablo, Borderlands, and Nioh.
Destiny was sold on its universe building, story, loot, and cooperative elements, yet it consistently undermines those principles to try to create a competitive game that cannot possibly exist in Destiny's universe.

Or you can just look at the stats and see how low Trials is on the board... And Lol, PvE still outweighs PvP with the population stats.
-
I LOVE how everyone says trials is the best. Its elimination Win 9 games in a row and go to the lighthouse to interact with 1 thing A chest with crap loot. Id rather fight another Fomorian and loose another relay than get excited for Trials. But Thats my opinion.
-
Destiny died when VoG wasnt a thing anymore so what im saying is Ever since year 1 ended destiny has been dead. Trials couldnt possibly ruin something thats already dead right?
-
Meh I just wanna play the game, -blam!- everything/everyone else.
-
Trials isn't killing Destiny, Bungie are. Just played crucible for the past 2 days and it's in a terrible place right now.
-
Simple fix, give everyone a predetermined loadout. Then they will never have to adjust thinga because of too.
-
The loot all gets dismantled anyway it's def not what keeps it going
-
It's not that they change things based on trials being "for the 1%." It's that they make the changes based on what they think the top 1% of players want from the game. Which is slightly flawed, because they don't actually do it correctly or they hit things unnecessarily. But they do need to listen to those players, as they are kind of the experts on how things actually function in the wild, which is insight that all the in-house testing in the world can't provide.

Edited by zJDz: 2/16/2017 5:30:07 PMYou got a couple things wrong in your post. First trials is for everyone, the lighthouse is for the 1%. Trials is what is keeping destiny going. 95% of the destiny streams on twitch are trials.

Hate to say but u right, always thought trials saved destiny but I was wrong since trials come out everything went downhill for destiny as good as trials is most people run a card or two and go play PvE but now bungie doesn't put content and every time u ask for more content they say go play trials let alone trials makes the decision what to nerf or buff,, is funny cose all best pvp players in destiny doesn't like trials but it is a good way to make money out morons, u say milk the morons as much as u can why not they being stupid

You cannot kill what's already dead.
-
Hehe out in the cold
-
Now that Destiny is MLG you can give up any hope that devs will take PvE into account.
-
While I don't think it's the sole reason it seems to dictate the majority of updates, I mean I'm all for change but not when it's suits less than half of the content...PvP is just not that good in destiny and there is better out there, the pve is the reason I play and always will do.
-
Trials is cancer, end of story.
-
I thought the only reason people play destiny anymore is for trials. If you play this game for pve you might as well just quit and find different game to play. Not being a diick just saying there are way better games to play if you're not interested in pvp

I understand what you mean but at the same time it makes sense that Bungie has focused on the PvP aspect of the game now. The reason is that PvE is dead for the most part. Don't get me wrong. I love PvE as much as the next guy and I'm not saying there's anything wrong if you prefer PvE. The problem is that we've been playing the exact same strikes and raids for 3 years. There's just no new content aside from the new raid. We've killed these same enemies thousands of times.. We've run these same strikes thousands of times. Sure Bungie might throw some different modifiers at us or slap a few new skins on the strikes, but at the end of the day it's the same old stuff. Trials/PvP can get old as well but for the most part you get more variety in every game. It makes more sense to balance the weapons based more heavily on PvP, because if something is broken it will be much more noticeable. If a gun is completely broken in PvP, it ruins the experience of all PvP. If a gun is broken in PvE, you have the option to use other guns that work. The enemies aren't going to change their strategy. Think of it this way.. Early on in Destiny everything in PvE was fresh and new. We were all excited to explore and find new things. PvP was there but more of an afterthought because of all the new PvE content to explore. Now that we've seen everything, it makes sense that people will gravitate towards PvP as Destiny winds down its life cycle until D2.

Trials 100% killed destiny. It definitely wasnt the incompetent/lazy devs & the guy who nerfs things because they are annoying. Definitely totally surely positively absolutely wasn't them.
-
Let the partayy begin..

-
Stfu trials isn't killing anything
-
Saying Trials is killing Destiny is like saying maggots are eating a guy alive when he's been in the dirt for months. You can't kill what's already dead.
-
This game would be dead without crucible, not trials.
-
The only thing that is killing Destiny is father time. Every game has a shelf life and this game is 2 and a half years old.
-
Then don't play trials. Trials didn't make any changes, and no changes were made because of trials.
