Sidearms keeping ammo after death

I am assuming this is a bug? I don't mind them making special ammo rare but it slows the pace of the game having to re-equip all the time. I like to get right back into the action.

  • I don't think it is a bug. I think they didn't write the code well enough to function correctly. Sidearms spawn with ammo. 15 or 18 rounds. Not 120 after you have picked up a few ammo boxes. It's like the hunter nerf affecting a bunch of other classes. Bungie screwed up. Thankfully they made hand cannons better without bloom if you time your shots. Otherwise there wouldn't be much well done lol.

      • Did you read the patch notes? It states lose special ammo on death [u][b]but[/b][/u] sidearms are not affected.

          Let's be real, if sidearms didn't spawn with ammo, then we'd have TONS of players who would either start play super-passively with snipers to conserve special ammo or fall back onto Invective/Ice Breaker. Neither of which do much to make the game more fun or interesting. Sidearms are fine. The real problem is how badly handled the ammo nerf was for the other specials.

          • I'm not sure it is intentional. I know all Sidearms spawn with ammo but I don't recall it building up like this i.e no loss upon each death of accumulated special. Perhaps we didn't notice because Special ammo spawned a lot less often I just noticed it with Ironwreath-D in Control, I accumulated 123 rounds with perks active. Did not notice it on Trespasser or Dreg's Promise earlier. Is it really ALL sidearms? Anyway, welcome to the new Sidearm Meta, once this gets around

            • IT'S A SIDEARM META, BABY! And Trespasser destroys (but does go through that accumulated ammo pretty quickly). I've tried all of the following in Control and profited - Trespasser - Dreg's Promise - The Wormwood - Ironwreath-D - Conviction II I think Bungie did not factor in Sidearms retaining accumulated ammo on death with increased special ammo drops, and other weapons losing it all. Why would you equip anything other than a sidearm now? I was using Trespasser as my 'primary' and got top score

            • It seems to be intentional, but I can't see why they made that decision (along with many other stupid things). Allowing players to spawn with a couple sidearm bullets (1-2 clips?) would have been enough, but let them keep all the ammo when dying? That's just stupid.

            • They've always done this. It was the USP of sidearms when they introduced them, but now its going to be so much more difficult to get ammo for other specials that sidearms are going to see a lot more use. Ironic, rather than make them better they're just forcing people to use them by screwing with all the other guns.

                • Crazy stuff. Not sure why it wasn't changed to base level ammo on death. I keep finishing matches with max special ammo.

                • It's normal you hold what you got so 130 (example) every time when you didn't use it yeah I know that's why the bungie cannot think with their own updates or testing
