• Life expectancy isn't a given right under the constitution. The government has no right interfering with peoples lives in an attempt to improve it.

    • Hmmm indeed. The country still suffering the effects of Hiroshima and Nagasaki has the highest life expectancy and spends less then half the other countries on the list.

      • The fact is that universal healthcare benefits the majority of people. It is the way of the future.

Universal health care is where it's at. I live in Canada and our health care is top notch and everyone gets it. The only people here that are against it are the people that are really selfish and don't want to help anyone but them selfs. Oh and I'd say I pay about 2500 a year which includes my family, cause of the tax bracket I'm in. Lower income get it free which I have no problem with.

            • Americans don't deserve universal healthcare, they're too -blam!-ing stupid with their way of life to realise how -blam!-ed they are as a society.

THIS IS OBVIOUSLY SEEN THROUGH THE HIGHER LIFE EXPECTANCIES OF OTHER NATIONS WE HAVE TO STAY A 20TH CENTURY COUNTRY GOD DAMNIT. THESE SOCIALISTIC ECONOMIC POLICIES ONLY WORK WITH A HIGH EMPLOYMENT RATE. BUT WE CANT IMPLEMENT FREE TUITION SO THAT WE COULD LOWER THE UNEMPLOYMENT RATE THUS FIXING THE PROBLEM BECAUSE WE NEED CHICAGO TO BE SHITTY SO WE HAVE A SCAPEGOAT TO MENTION WHEN WE NEED TO SUPPORT OUR OUTDATED MINDSET HAHAHAHAAH LIBERAL TEARS

                    • It doesn't mean anything if we are 5 years behind the #1 spot(which is nothing) because it can all be chalked up to lifestyle choices. The fact that we have an enormous population of obese ppl has nothing to do with us not having healthcare. Americans live fast and reckless.

                      • Americans don't want to pay for other people's healthcare. Which is funny, because the rest of the world can afford public healthcare because the USA subsidise it for us. Healthcare is expensive in the States, and as long as people are willing to pay it, Pharmaceutical companies are willing to sell it to countries in Europe and the rest of the world for much cheaper. Thanks America!

                      • This graph demonstrates just how stupid people as a whole can be. Americans cry that socialism will destroy their "freedom" and say Capitalism makes a more competitive market... I guess you have the "Freedom" to pay $15 for a single Tylenol http://www.rd.com/health/wellness/wildly-overinflated-hospital-costs/ And yet you don't have any extra "Freedom"... I live in Canada and I have pretty much the same freedom as you. I still own a gun, drive a car, and vote. But at the end of the day when I'm sick I'll have a much better chance of surviving then you, so I can enjoy all my "freedoms" much longer and more healthy. America you lost your freedom years ago. Now you live in one of the most monitored, heavily policed countries in the world. Which has resulted in you HAVING THE MOST PRISONERS in the world. The prison system and police state is something that would gave the Soviets a hard on! You guys are literally living like a prequel to "1984". It's both ironic and stupid to call any "ISM" bad....because guess what capital"ISM" is still a freaking ISM. dumb, dumb's. But what ever, keep paying your stupidly high insurance premiums and your $15 dollar tylenol and telling me how much better your quality of life is to mine.

                        • There is a huge disparity in the demographics who strain a health care system budget. Keeping very sick people alive is very expensive and health care advances in neonatal intensive care and end of life care is exorbitant Most younger to middle age people contribute via directly and or through their employer to a pot that is used little by them. They subsidize others care Years ago people were born and died at home. Some parts this is still true. In the US there is a mentality to live every day that is medically possible. 93 year old folks with Alzheimer's and metastatic cancer with horrible quality of life being kept alive by their families and or physicians with no reality check and sometimes defying compassion. Longer living taxes the budget which is fine if you are willing to set limits on other things: how many people come into this country, social spending, defense needs, etc Prevention is interesting. If you prevent heart attacks and strokes you are setting up for more Alzheimer's and metastatic cancer. Nobody lives forever. The prevention diverts the cost and pain of disease. It doesn't solve it People aren't animals to be put down when they are old suffering and unfixable but our culture needs to have a compassionate alternative to the live every day and spend every dollar mantra that exists
ps. The everyone in Canada gets quick and great care in Canada bit made me laugh. That isn't what I hear
Have you ever actually spoken with your doctor? All of my doctors say the same thing, they have to raise prices to have the latest doo-dad in their office, even if it does not work properly or their premiums go through the roof. They have all said the same thing to me, the problem is the insurance. Government will not regulate the insurance, they get paid too damn much by them. Also, our government can not make a cup of coffee correctly, why do we want them trying to manage healthcare that THEY are exempt from? Healthcare is not an easy issue & on top of that, if has to be fluid, because people in California are going to get sick from different things than a person in Texas, who gets sick from different things from a person in Minnesota, who get sick from something different than a person in Florida, etc. So name me 3 countries that have our landmass, our population AND our geological diversity all in 1. When your country fits into 1 of our average size states, you really can't compare the healthcare system. One size does not fit all.

                          • This is less about healthcare and more about lifestyle. Look at the Japanese leading in life expectancy. They have extremely healthy diets and lead a usually calm and passive life. Compared to American lifestyle and diet, it really isn't a mystery as why Japan and other countries live longer than the US.

                            • Lol, this says less about healthcare and more about lifestyles. On a side note, Japan seems to be doing well in this, maybe we should copy more of their policies, like their policy on Muslims.
