I'll explain the entire timeline without looking up any of the stories of Wikipedia once. I will only rely on my knowledge of the series as a fan.
Edit: I think I need to address a few concerns.
Yes, I am a like whore.
Yes, I can't prove that I won't look up the stories on Wikipedia. You will have to take the word of a stranger on the internet.
I am doing this half because I'm a like whore, and half because I want to challenge myself. The Kingdom Hearts timeline is very, very convoluted, and I want to see how accurately I can explain it from memory alone.
ALRIGHT HERE IT IS
So a long time ago in a galaxy far far away there were hundreds of people with keyblades. Then they all killed eachother. Except a few lived and taught other people how to use keyblades. Fast forward to Terra, Aqua and Ven, 3 kids training to be keyblade masters. They have to fight this guy named Xehanort, who was once a good guy but became a bad guy trying to open Kingdom Hearts, which is like a really big heart. Ven dies in the fight, but his heart goes into this other kid. Terra like, fuses with Xehanort, then is beaten by Aqua and loses his memory and becomes the apprentice of a guy named Ansem. Aqua gets lost in the darkness, and Terra's heart inhabits his suit of armor. End of Birth By Sleep.
Sora is a kid living on a bunch of islands with Riku and Kairi when the darkness attacks! Riku's like "Nah the darkness is cool m9" and goes away. Sora gets a Keyblade and then Kairi goes away and Sora has to find them. He finds out Kairi is a princess and along with the other Disney princesses is needed to open Kingdom Hearts. Riku gets taken over by Xehanort-Terra's heartless, who goes by the name Ansem, but isn't the real Ansem. It turns out Riku was supposed to get the keyblade, but didn't because he turned to the darkness, but then he gets the keyblade anyways for some reason. Then Sora dies. Then Kairi hugs his Heartless and he turns back to normal for some reason. Then Kairi loses her heart and Kingdom Hearts opens but Sora and Mickey Mouse seal it shut. Kairi is now alive again but she and Sora are separated. Sora is stuck with Donald and Goofy who were with him the whole time and Mickey and Riku, who now isn't under the control of heartless Ansem, are also stuck alone. They all look for a way to find their friends. End of Kingdom Hearts.
So Sora and Donald and Goofy find a castle run by guys in black cloaks. They're trying to take away Sora's memories for some reason, and when he beats them all with the help of another one who betrayed them, he meets a girl who's replaced Kairi in his mind called Namine. She tells him to sleep in a pod to regain his memories and he does. However he'll forget everything about her and the castle. Meanwhile Riku and Mickey also end up there but they go into the basement, fight a few cloaked guys and Riku ends up being able to control the Darkness in him. End Chain of Memories.
Meanwhile at the same time Roxas is made. Roxas is a Nobody, which is someone who has no heart, but aren't the minor Heartless, who also don't have hearts. He is recruited by Organization XII, which is a group of 13 really powerful nobodies led by a guy called Xemnas. Their goal is to open Kingdom Hearts so they can all get hearts and have feelings. Roxas works for them when he meets Xion, the 14th member of Organization XII. She is revealed to be Sora's nobody, and Namine is Kairi's nobody, and Roxas is also Sora's nobody, but he has Ven's heart, because when Ven lost his heart by being killed by a dark version of himself, he gave it to Sora, who doesn't remember that. So Roxas has feelings, and is also a Nobody, and he kills Xion because she forces him because I guess Sora can only have 1 Nobody. Roxas is then put in a computer by a guy with red bandages covering his face and Riku, who are working together. Also, Roxas loses his memories and everybody forgets Xion. End 358/2 Days.
Roxas slowly realizes that he's not in reality and finds a computer version of Sora sleeping in a pod in computer Twilight Town, and then Sora in real Twilight Town wakes up with Donald and Goofy. They fight Organization XII, with Axel, a member of the organization who was friends with Roxas, sacrificing himself to help. They find out Heartless Ansem wasn't the real Ansem, and that he was Xehanort's Heartless. They also find out the leader of Organization XII is Xemnas, who is Xehanort's Nobody. Xemnas kidnaps Kairi, but she's saved by Riku, who looks like Heartless Ansem until he doesn't. They all meet up and become friends again. Meanwhile the guy with the red bandages on his face is revealed to be the actual Ansem and shoots a laser that does something, I can't remember, and then he died. They go into Kingdom Hearts and kill Xemnas and live happily ever after. End of Kingdom Hearts 2.
Mickey gets a note but it's all messed up, so he digitizes it and goes in to the Matrix. Digital Sora helps him gets rid of all the mess and Mickey finds out the note is from Namine. He sends a note to Sora and Riku. End of Re:Coded.
Now we get to the confusing one. Sora and Riku go to meet Mickey and have Mickey's teacher teach them to become Keyblade Masters. They go into a dream world but keep running into a guy who looks like Xehanort but is way too young. They eventually find out he's young Xehanort, and Xehanort is actually a time traveler now. He apparently made Kingdom Hearts 1 happen, I think, as a part of his plan? So he went back in time to bring various versions of himself to form a new Organization XII, and all they need to complete it is Sora. Riku saves him, and Riku becomes a Keyblade Master but Sora doesn't. Then it's revealed because Axel's Heartless and Nobody were killed, his normal self was revived. Same goes for some other members of Organization XII. Also, apparently some of them worked with Xehanort when he worked with Ansem. End of Dream Drop Distance.
I think I missed something, but I'm sick and tired, so I don't care right now.

2 RepliesI asked my kids what the story was for the KH game since it never seemed to make much sense to me. They have never really given a good answer. Now I understand why! It's complete nonsense.
-
1 ReplyThat was a horrible explanation.

6 RepliesEdited by Murph Tha Smurf: 1/25/2017 7:08:40 PMAs someone who has never played KH, I have no clue wtf you just said. Edit: well, I did play some of Re: Chain of Memories, in which the gameplay and story was really bad. I am less and less encouraged to ever play the games with each passing day.
