I've been searching through the internet and I can't find a good build for this subclass anymore, and I'll explain why in a moment, but please, if anyone knows good PVE Bladedancer builds, I really want to play it again. BADLY.
When TTK dropped I picked up Nightstalker and didn't look back for about a year. The biggest reason? Vanish in Smoke. In year 1 I kept my fireteam fighting through Nightfalls with Bladedancer's invisibility, but as soon as Vanish in Smoke appeared, I picked up my Monte Carlo and became invisible at the touch of a button, no need to crouch or run into combat. It wasn't until I was reminded of Celestial Nighthawk's destructive power with ROI (as Nighthawk was useless in King's Fall) that I touched Gunslinger again, and I'm glad I did. I love that subclass again, and I really wanted Bladedancer back. But it's useless now.
Bladedancer invisibility is pointless compared to Vanish in Smoke. Arc Blade is terrific in PVP, but for PVE, even with the buff to damage, it's horrible. It takes forever to chew into anything worth using a super on, so it sits there doing nothing, and not even Memory of Felwinter (lose super, gain extra grenade and melee) can make up for that, because the melee abilities aren't that useful anymore.
The biggest problem is that every other subclass in destiny has terrific synergies. All warlock and titan subclasses are fun to me because of it, but Bladedancer's only real synergy revolves around Shadowjack, and once again... Vanish in Smoke. I really wish they'd just replace Shadowjack with somethig better. Give the full invisibility timer to anyone who uses a perk slot on invisibility (they deserve it if they do), and replace Shadowjack with a useful PVE perk, with some real synergy. Bladedancer was incredible year one, and I want to use it again.
If anyone has any really useful builds that are specific to Bladedancer, I'd love to have a reason to use it again. Please let me know.
Edit: Most of the suggestions so far are either conditional to Arc Burn being on for strikes (what if I want to play story or run Bladedancer for raid?) or fail to take into account that Nightstalker can do better what they're suggesting.
Edit 2: Lord Mathias suggested changing Shadowjack's perk to something like this: (Abilities used when coming out of invisibility have increased damage/double damage.) This would give Hunters a reason to choose Bladedancer's invisibility over Nightstalker's invisibility, and the abundant methods of going BD invis would make it easy damage to attain. You'd probably have to lower the damage for PVP, but what do people think?
Edit 3: There's a lot of comments posting in Bladedancer's defense, and I'm glad to see that people care enough about it. But if people really care, shouldn't we WANT it to be better. For every reason someone says it's not terrible, I can see multiple reasons why Nightstalker and Gunslinger are not only better, but can do what Bladedancer does anyway. For Titan and Warlock, each subclass has its own perks and differences, different playstyles and synergies. Are Hunters really NOT upset that one of our subclasses has been left behind so badly? Again, instead of defending it, shouldn't we be asking Bungie to take notice and improve it, make it useful? They wanted all subclasses to be useful in Wrath of the Machine (and we're talking PVE so raid is important here), but who can honestly say they find Bladedancer useful for WOTM instead of Nightstalker or occasionally Gunslinger. Of course I can't claim it's wrong/immoral, it's just a video game. But can people really not see/agree that it sucks?
Edit 4: More than a few suggestions have been given about builds to use, and after trying a few I've finally found one that's actually passable, though it still isn't as great as Nightstalker or Nighthawker and it uses your exotic armor and weapon. Fast Twitch for super quick melee regeneration, synergised (finally, though a small synergy) with Hungering Blade means quick recovery when needed. This also means you can put blink back on if you like/miss Blink. Then wear the Sealed Ahamkara Grasps for the additional melee (which means you have more chance at a kill to Proc Hungering Blade, and if you roll Switchblade for it you can get melee back even faster). Last but not least is the Monte Carlo, which reduces melee cooldown AGAIN and can fully recharge melee. SAG will also sometimes reload your primary, meaning more Monte ammo for more melees. It's a bit frantic for a build, but like I said it's passable, and it might still hold together if you change one of the exotics. For the other perks, try Fleetfooted for easy escape and quicker time to target, Arcbolt for dealing with overwhelming adds, and Showstopper for area protection. I'm going to test it in Crota's End soon and report back, but I invite others to try it too and comment below.

1 ReplyThe blade dancer is good for staying invisible. Thaaats about it.

Edited by thedandymancan: 1/26/2017 7:31:05 PMI would agree that BD is underwhelming in PvE. While I don't think attacks while invisible should do DOUBLE damage (let's be honest, that would be stupidly overpowered in PvP), I think bonus damage could be a good idea. Here's another idea: what if Arc Blade could chain lightning to other enemies, a la Zhalo Supercell? Showstopper would be even more incredible for ad clearing, and Razor's Edge would be improved as well. On another note, I'm not sure how it would work, but I think it would be fair if Razor's Edge left a lingering trail of damaging arc energy, similar to Aftershock for Fist o' Havoc.

7 RepliesReduce the time needed to turn invisible by half Increase arc blade damage by 200% Increase orbs so it's on par with other supers. Right now you could kill 100 thralls and only make 3 orbs.
-
Then use it dumbass

5 RepliesI have an idea for shadow jack any melee or grenade when coming out of invisibility does double damage
-
7 RepliesAll Bladedancer needs is this one change to an exotic armor piece. Don't Touch Me gauntlets now turn you invisible upon taking critical (red zone) damage from minions of the darkness. That would make Bladedancer a PvE powerhouse for survival.
-
12 RepliesI wouldn't say it's dead. It's difficult to use sure, but it's not dead.

1 ReplyEdited by swain-55: 1/22/2017 6:22:07 PMWell bladedancer is not really made for PVE. The only time is really good when prison of Elders was relevant. Just to go invisible For hunters nightstalker is the one best PVE class.

3 RepliesBD was a crota raid beast

4 RepliesEdited by timtam342: 1/22/2017 7:04:58 PM
as Nighthawk was useless in King's Fall
Lol nighthawk was really good for boss DPS and staggering oryx In Kings fall

2 RepliesEdited by Swiftlock: 1/22/2017 9:28:01 AMGiving Bladedancers a damage buff just for coming out of stealth would be broken as hell in PvP. The Shinobu's + Skip Grenade shenanigans would be out of control, even if it was just a minor damage boost. No thanks.

1 ReplyNothing tops nightstalker (for hunters at least) pve wise. Blade dancers were great support classes year 1 because of the ability to go invisible and get revives but now nightstalker can do that in addition to trying down groups of enemies and dealing out more damage to bosses with tether
-
It never was good in pve, invisibility made it decent.
-
Tbh Blade Dancer never was a really good PvE class. Heck, the super itself was god awful against anything that wasn't a dreg or thrall. Now is it actually something. You CAN kill majors with bladedancer... In all of Y1 PvE the only thing bladedancers were used for was invisible Rez in raid/strikes, running the Crota maze/sword bearer and disarming mines in Skolas. Why do people now think BD was soo good in Y1? If BD was good at anything it was PvP. Back when lightning bolts nades would hit you for nearly 150, the auto tracking on swipes in the air was damn ridiculous, blink/ slide shotty and the invincibility frames when you used showstopper and razor edge. The hunters subclasses have always favored PvP.

8 RepliesSomeone grab the marshmallows because it is an absolute roast sesh out here. Bladedancer is way better than you think, but that's none of my business 🐸☕️
Don't sleep on us.
1 ReplyThe Razor's Edge perk for Bladedancer's Arcblade should be changed into a long range projectile-type ability similar to Bolt-Caster's Sword of Thunder ability rather than that short-range Arc wave on the ground, or grant a defense-debuff effect to enemies damaged by Arcblade.
-
4 RepliesLast time blade dancer subclass was useful was year 1. Nightfalls, strikes, and og poe
-
3 RepliesOk,here is a good pve bladedancer build...Kepris sting for your exotic, freeing up encore as your last perk, which is very strong in pve...the rest is your pick... the invisibility on bladedancer is easy better then the smoke, at least in my opinion. This build is powerful and fun

3 RepliesIt's just the super. It's good for killing adds, but using it against bosses is bad. Also, many run the perk that makes smaller orbs. It's like smash and stormcaller. It's not great except ad clearing. Each class has one. If your not using tether, then your basically hurting your team. Also, take in account, how would this affect Pvp. Each class has classes geared toward Pvp, or pve. Just adapt accordingly.

1 ReplyI find it odd you say bladedancer melees are useless, yet praise vanish in smoke. You do know blink strike has an invis option as well. Yes it requires an enemy, but I find there is usually an enemy around when I need to go invis. For my playstyle it is easier for me to go invis this way. I just hit and keep running. With smoke I need to watch for enemies and make sure none are around, since the game automatically does a basic melee if anything is in sight. Even if it is out of melee range.

1 ReplyYou for real blade dancers are very good classes in pve there fast as shit on top of that they go invisible you can clutch so much with just that

1 ReplyEdited by gr8b8: 1/22/2017 11:28:58 PMBaldedancer is a mob monster subclass lol. It's super and it's grenade are godly for taking out ads. On top of that, you have way more invisibility than just vanishing in smoke, and it lasts much much longer. I run blade dancer with invisibility on my blink strike, when I crouch, and for my super as well. And if the team is bad enough, I'll even throw on some don't touch me's. Hell, you could even put it so that kills with blink strike and blade dancer regenerate your health. Maximum invisibility and amazing ad control. You become a beast of a support player. Edit - also, there's plenty of exotics to complement the subclass even more

2 RepliesPvE is dead, just leave it at that.
-
2 RepliesArc blade needs a HUGE damage boost in PvE. It should NEVER take 4 swings at 390 light to do kill a splicer captain.
-
3 Repliesto be fair no one used arc blade for actual damage before the nerf. they used blade as the revive guy. i think they actually buffed blade's pve ability with vanish now proc upon super...
-
3 RepliesIt's also dead in PVP. You get creamed by every other offensive super.
