Kings fall: Love it or hate it?

I just played kings fall for the first time, absolutely loved it. It was super challenging especially sisters. And it's gear is also incredibly Badass looking. So why does a large majority of the community dislike it so much?

  • I always thought it was a pretty good raid. Probably the second best out of the 4.

  • I am straight down the middle "meh" about it. Don't love it really but I didn't hate it. I mean, I'm sick and tired of the Hive theme but the raid itself, as a raid, is fine. Same with the loot, the weapons were 50/50 as was the armor, some I liked, some I didn't like. So yeah... "meh".

  • Hate the mechanics of it. Still like the "story" of Oryx

We dislike it because the mechanics in it are ridiculous one death even in normal mode means a wipe lets not forget how you screw up a mechanic once and your whole team wipes and it takes a ridiculous amount of time to complete

Disliked. VoG was a challenge, there was a good blend of mechanics and feeling overwhelmed by stronger enemies. Of course, that's partly because all enemies were higher level than we were. But you could not reach max level before you did the raid, you could only achieve it through horrible rng and a hard mode raid where everything hit like a load of bricks and you had a water pistol. Until IB was finally on your side, that is. That's why later raids have been so focused on mechanics. It's so easy to reach max light before even starting the raid that enemies no longer have the "doing more damage while taking less" advantage which was so integral to VoG's success. And the guns are still the most beloved of Destiny, rewards on par with end-game content. I remember being forever 29 and having to get horrible rng to swing my way in IB to get the boots I needed (back when drops were rare) to get 30. Took me over 70 runs to get the full VoG set. Fighting enemies just beyond your reach was a worthy challenge. The last 2 raids simply ask you to stand in the place Bungie wants you to for 12.3 seconds and then move to another spot for 7.4 seconds and then do the dance emote and you win. I don't feel lile I'm actually fighting enemies in them, I feel like I'm fighting teammates (or myself) that get out of the position Bungie wants us to stand in by 1.2 feet. No thanks. Give me stronger enemies, rewards that make it worthwhile, and a chase for light level any day. When I saw a 30, it inspired awe and it felt like an accomplishment when I hit it. Now when I see a 400, I check grimoire score. Sorry for the wall of text.

  • Better than Crota for sure but doesn't hold a candle to VoG, especially at release. It's not super hard but it makes up for it by being more unforgiving if someone does die, however.

  • I enjoyed the atmosphere of the dreadnaught and the different mechanics of the raid but I didn't enjoy how long it was... might of been better if I had 5 friends instead of randoms.

  • I've fallen out of love with raids, I've grown to dislike the thought of having to rely on other people doing their job when it becomes evident they are not up to the task. Kind of like my real job actually come to think of it.

    • Loved it. It was a fun and challenging raid, but there were some moments and elements (warpriest hard mode knights that just charge you) that were annoying but quickly overcome. Definitely a beefy raid though. When you think of a raid boss, Oryx definitely takes it as biggest boss. I mean, he is a god after all lol.

    • Before the april update it was pretty brutal. The drop rates were pretty awful. After the april update it was a lot more bearable but it still felt like a major grind. I came back to it recently at 400 and it was a lot more enjoyable although there are still some glitches in it which sucks. Like when ur transferring the aura at the stage before the war priest...you could be right next to ur teammate but it still wont transfer. Or how sometimes itll be a little laggy and u cant pick up the orb in oryxs thrown room.

    • I can't speak for everyone, but i feel as if King's Fall was just played out, or you just don't feel like being stressed out. I used to love that raid when it dropped. Everyone had to be on their toes and communicate, but having done that shizz over 100 times, i can't stand that raid now. Good and fun raid with friends or a good group. Bad with lfg people who won't listen and cooperate. Makes people not want to do it ever again.

LOVED IT. The first time I did this raid was probably my best moment in Destiny. Killing The Warpriest, Golgoroth with the music and Oryx. It's long but worth it.

      • I hated it and still do. It just wasn't fun for me. That's why I only did it once and never again.

      • I pretty much hated it. my raid team quit playing Destiny when they didn't release a raid and instead did prison of elders. have found a couple people to play with since then, but because of my schedule, it's been hard to find a steady team. so i had to LFG every run in Kings Fall. absolute torture. relied way too heavily on mechanics for an LFG team. one person messes up or goes AFK for even a minute and it's a complete wipe. and the handful of times i did complete it, it was just kinda boring. the jumping puzzles were fun the first couple times. by the third time i'd run it, it was just a waste of time. added nothing to the raid. just felt like they added it so as to make the raid seem like it was a lot bigger than it actually was. i think i have 7 completions. didn't even try hardmode because i was just bored with it already. the weapons were not any better, just had a different skin. and knowing how bad it sucked to run normal with LFGs, no thanks on hard mode.

      • Loved it, can't choose between it and vog though. Wotm and crota are great too but just don't feel like raids for me.

I could like it if I got into a fireteam that did it but alas I no likey. However your enthusiasm is undeniable and I applaud you and your counquerous fireteam for that.

      • Didn't mind it, but I tend to do different bits and jump in and out. Makes for less completions but was only chasing light levels for certain gear. It's been the same up until the rubbish instant max light we have today.

The drops looked cool but weren't that useful, even for the Raid they're only a small margin better than most. Also the drop rates were shit and there wasn't a Challenge Mode at first, which meant there were less drops overall to begin with. Oh and because it took the most time and most strats are very linear, there is no 'alternate method.' Also because LFG requirements like Spindle and Sleeper Simulant* for War Priest and Golgoroth, and Touch of Malice for Daughters and Oryx chased away the majority of casuals. Lots of good reasons. It had the best thematic design, the best terrain textures, the best aesthetics for rewards . . . But it lacked one vital aspect: Accessibility.

      • I liked the raid the first time but I really didn't like how to get above 310 light you had to do this raid. A lot of it was mundane after a few completions. And your loadout has to be specific. I still use the sniper and machine gun tough.

      • It is a very technical raid. Oryx, you kill only by detonating 16 bombs. There is no room to improve or speed up the encounter. It is very mechanical. If you really know what to do, you don't even need to communicate to the others much. There is something enjoyable about the mechanical precision, but it can also be tedious.
