A question about Vex, Exos, and frames

Can the Vex hack and reprogram an exo or frame? Vice versa?

  • Wendigo2112 explained this well, but I'd like to add a few extra points. The current theory about exos, is that they were once human. Every exo mind was, at one point, that of a flesh and blood human being, but has since been put into an exo body. Also, the description of Astrocyte Verse implies that exo brains are made up of things called exoneurons. A neuron, in a human being, is basically a brain cell. Neurons fire in sequence to create thoughts. One can assume the exoneurons might do something similar, only instead of being made of organic chemicals and exchanging hormones, they are made of silicone and copper, and transmit electrical signals. Theoretically, with the right technology, the impulses that drive an exo's thoughts can be hijacked and controlled, but such a practice would be very very difficult. TLDR: Exos cannot be hacked like a common computer.

    • The vex are a fluid-based lifeform. Notice the white goop when you kill them? That's the Vex.

      • Technically the Vex could reprogram a Frane, but anyone with fingers could do that to some extent. An Exo cannot be reprogrammed; they are machine bodies operated by human minds, not computer minds. Vex also cannot be reprogrammed because they are machine bodies operated by Mind Fluid. These two groups are eerily similar

        • I'd definitely say no here. The Vex are organic beings living inside of robotic frames essentially, and Exos are intelligent minds just like human brains. Also, the Vex have shown no capacity for hacking, though if they could, there's no reason why they couldn't hack the frames. To my knowledge, frames aren't sentient.

        • No. Vex don't really do that to begin with, but the yogurt stuff in the vex is them. The mind fluid is in their chests, and that's what they are. Hydras and Gatelords have more mind fluid then the average goblin or hobgoblin. It's how it works.

        • A Frame is just a mook with some random scrub vendor shotgun. Then the frame upgrades with a Party Crasher and transforms into an Exo. Then, finally, the god roll matador and becomes a Vex.

Well, if I'm not mistaken, which I probably am, Exos are created with one directive: the Deep Stone Crypt, which is still very enigmatic, so I'm not sure how secure it is. Additionally, an Exo's memory is wiped every once in a while, which could make reprogramming difficult. Exos are more than just machines. Frames, though? They seem much more simple, acting as labor bots. If Vex have the ability to control foreign equipment, I see no reason why they couldn't grab a Frame.
