Here's the thing though. It's a matter of quality vs quantity. Yes, I was disappointed at first seeing how few launch titles there were. But let's be honest, are you gonna buy multiple $60 games & a console at launch, or just buy one must-have game that you're going to spend hours and hours on? Yes, more variety at launch would've been great for those who aren't into Zelda. But most people are going to buy the Switch for Zelda, and they'll probably spend so much time on that that they'll ignore the other launch titles they bought until after they beat Zelda. Plus they seem to have a schedule of releasing a game every month this year. What does Microsoft and Sony have going on this year? Microsoft doesn't have Halo or GoW this year, and Sony hasn't even announced release dates for GoW, The Last of Us II, etc. This year looks better for Nintendo games than Sony and Microsoft games. I only wish the PS4 and Xbox One had a must-have exclusive game at launch. Their launch line-up wasn't exactly great either. They had a lot more than the Switch, but it was mostly ports and mediocre exclusives. So for quality exclusives, I think the Switch will do fine.

  • Like how Xbox players buy it for Halo? Maybe in 2007. Exclusives ain't what they used to be.

  • So then why buy a gaming console if not for its exclusives? Xbox was more popular for shooters, while the PS4 is good for JRPGs, etc. That seems like a reasonable justification for purchasing a box than can play games. If you like JRPGs you gravitate towards PS4, since the Xbox One doesn't support many JRPGs, and vice versa.

  • Nah, I'm a total Halo fanboy who turned traitor and bought a PS4. Most of the games I play are cross platform, like Destiny, so it was the system itself that sold me and not the games. The same is true for my kids and so long as we have Minecraft and lego games, they are happy. Yes, it means I can play The Last of Us and other Sony exclusives, but it also meant I can't play Halo, Gears of War, Mario, and Zelda. For mobile gaming, the situation is different. On iOS and Android, you have access to hundreds of thousands of games that will never be playable on a device like the Nintendo Switch. It's kind of a moot point for me anyway because even though I can buy the Switch if I want, I'm not going to lug around my phone and 6.5" tablet with controllers. My kids, on the other hand, would have to make a big sacrifice to go move from their iPads to a Switch just to have access to a few exclusive games. Long story short, exclusives are kind of meh and the limited number of games on the Switch kinda' sucks.

  • Yeah, I mostly buy my console based on the potential exclusives. Multi platform games are a bonus for me. Obviously, not everyone buys a console like me, but I wrongly assumed the majority bought a console for exclusives. My main point I was trying to get through was that even though Zelda isn't a Switch exclusive, the Switch will do fine. If it was launching with the current list of launch titles minus Zelda, then that would be a problem. It wouldn't be worth buying day one.

  • I don't think doing fine will be enough. For the future of Nintendo, they need to stop losing users.

  • Oh I know. I got the collectors edition preordered. But it's not really a PS4 exclusive. Which now that I think about it, Zelda isn't a Switch exclusive either... My whole point is moot...

  • Even if most people are going to buy into the Switch at launch just for Zelda, I still think it's a big problem that Nintendo does not have more games ready for launch. It's a problem because Nintendo needs variety in order to entice as many people as possible to buy the Switch. After all, what if the Zelda fans are not enough to carry the production costs of the console? If it doesn't sell well enough at the beginning due to lack of interest in the games available, then Nintendo will have a hard time convincing developers to spend time on projects for the Switch. Once you have a hard time getting developers to make games for the platform, it'll be a pretty quick spiral downward just like the Wii U had.
