I bought Skyrim SE during Black Friday and was wondering if Fallout has a similar feel to it? I want something to play once I'm done with Skyrim.
Just to be clear, I'm not going to finish Skyrim anytime soon. 90 hours in and I've barely even started the main quest.
Also, do I have to play the previous Fallouts to understand the story?

Edited by Whoppenheimer: 12/28/2016 9:37:59 PMHonestly I like Fallout 4 better than Skyrim. Fallout 4 has more character build and more of a story. But that's my opinion . I think you'll enjoy it
-
It's skyrim with guns and not hard for new players
-
-blam!- yea
-
I liked both but that might mostly be because they were easy platinum trophies. Still enjoyed the gameplay a lot too.
-
I liked both games and played them a lot. But then again I'm not a picky gamer. It's all up to you. Fantasy world with dragons and magic, or post apocalyptic world with guns and mutants.
-
Bethesda -blam!-s up the lore with every Fallout sequel. Not really looking forward to Fallout 5. By then it'll be an open-world shooter with only a couple RPG elements and more settlements to defend.

Edited by Falchion: 12/28/2016 4:24:47 PMNah, I didn't get the same kind of vibe from FO4 No, Fallout's story is very easy to understand without any background knowledge

11 RepliesI like elder scrolls but I've never been able to get into fallout. They feel completely different to me
-
No you can play fallout 4 and never play the others, I recommend that you don't play the others because the mechanics for F4 is way better. Narrative is good if you don't just try to finish the main story first. Note that almost all the endings are the same but net you different gear and allies depending who you side with. Use mods highly recommended. Dlc just get far harbor, automatron, and nuka world. The other 3 are just add ons to stuff in the game has and has no real story.

Love the Elder Scrolls games but can't get into the Fallout Games

I believe ES is Bethesdas superior franchise. I feel like they really really try with ES, or at least they did with Skyrim. I personally feel that after Skyrim, Bethesda realized they were essentially gods in the gaming community and got lazy. They got into the 'they'll buy our game no matter what' mentality, which was completely true. I think FO4 wasn't a cash grab but it was lazy. The world is huge, but empty. In Skyrim they crafted the world so well, it was large but it never felt empty or nonsensical as to where you were going. The geography felt unique and different. But that's just my opinion

11 RepliesThe games have a different setting and leveling/skill progression but otherwise they play very similar so yes if you like it is likely that you'll like the other as well.
-
I played both and I liked Skyrim way better. I tried so many times to get into fallout, but I just can't do it. My younger son loves the games and just raves about it. I think it's slow and boring.
thinking about a paternity test really
Fallout is more of a make your own fun type of game, and TES is more of a questing game.
-
Yes get Fallout 4. And no, you don't
-
If you like The Elder Scrolls you will most likely enjoy Fallout. The style, feel, and foundations of the two series are identical. These do after all come from the same developer. You will see the markings of Skyrim all over Fallout 4. These games have the same DNA. You don't need to play the other Fallout games to understand the story. They are all self contained much like Skyrim and the other TES games.

I never got a sense of discovery when playing FO, because of it being too modern and stuff. Also, the whole setting seems colorless and uninspiring to me. On top of that, the radiation shit was annoying as f. In ES, I can at least sit back and take in the beautiful setting and atmosphere while dreaming of the secrets and wonders that lie ahead. Fallout is just to hip and rock and roll Pepsi for me.
-
They're similar mechanics-wise. But they both have their own atmosphere.
-
I guess. Bethesda dumbs down each game though
-
Fallout really just seems like a dumb down elder scrolls game but with guns. It still is worth getting but don't expect to have your mind blown.
-
They don't feel anything alike. I loved Skyrim but I didn't care for Fallout 4. It was okay but there aren't really a lot of side quests and cool stories to find in Fallout 4 like there were in Skyrim.
-
2 RepliesI've found much more enjoyment in Fallout games than I ever have with Skyrim. Both great games, and I highly recommend Fallout 4.
-
2 RepliesFallout is elder scrolls with guns instead of magic... Nope no need to play the older fallouts...And I'm sure everyone is saying fo4 sucks...It doesn't...
-
They have very different feels, and you don't need previous games to understand it. I had great fun with both games, and would definitely recommend Fallout 4
-
7 RepliesIf you hadn't played a Fallout game before, probably.
