How do I git gud at online shooters?

I'm 22 and I'm still bad at games like cod & overwatch. Soldier 76 is the only one I'm good with but even still I'm not that great.

I've always been terribly average at shooters even though I play them a lot. I'm just good enough that I don't always get my ass handed to me to the point that it makes me want to stop playing.

      • Practice, figure out head level when aiming, pay attention to the routes around map and cap B. Your MLG now.

      • Apply Dark Souls (or Edge of Tomorrow if that's a better analogy for you) logic. Basically: live, die, learn, repeat. Every death is a lesson in what went wrong. Traded? Fire sooner. Corner camper? Check your corners. Guy behind the one you were aiming for? Disengage, flank and reacquire. In time it all becomes second nature but you still die and keep learning lessons. Never glacier in front of a Reaper without back up, Tracers phase doesn't extend your jump that much, don't hook an enemy when your ammo is dry, etc.

      • Stop caring, find your favourite loadout, have a few beers and mash the buttons whenever you see anyone. I got over 4.5kd last night in a match using those exact methods.

        • Your aim sucks ass? Try playing with a mouse and keyboard. Your thought process isn't what it should be for shooters? Git gud?
I really don't know if you have issues with the second one.
• Play slower than you are currently playing. By playing slower, you are able to use cover more efficiently and more importantly, determine where your team is at. By knowing where your team is at, you can determine "safer" areas on the map that enemies are less likely to come from. People who stay back with their team generally do better than the lone wolves who run into the enemy spawn with guns blazing. Move with your team. If you notice your team spawning on the other side if the map, that is generally a good indicator that the enemy team is starting to push into your spawn and you should probably move to where your team is.

        • You need good aim, and game sense. Both of these things can only be acquired through experience.

        • Much like with anything, practice makes better. Although, there will always be someone faster, more accurate, etc. The more you play a particular PvP shooter, the more acclimated you'll eventually become. One of the biggest factors is learning the maps of your choice shooter. Learning choke and spawn points is invaluable. Same with checking radars every few seconds. Getting a team formed will significantly help sway the outcome of a game. The communication factor cannot be overstated. Call out enemies! Even if you're killed, letting a teammate know where, will help to turn that enemy point into a wash. Always strive to challenge yourself. Play with those who are above your skill level. It's the only way you'll improve your skill set. Above all else, have fun! That's what rally matters after all.

        • Alright so the first step is realizing its going to be a long road. You are as good as the people you play with. IE while it is possible good teamwork can still out strat good teams good players will mostly always beat lesser skilled except for that one situation. Start joing groups doing tournaments etc. Play ranked with a group of people around your skill level slightly higher. As you get better that circle will expand. You gotta play a lot. I was putting in 8 hour days for two years during Reachs launch and I still barely cracked the top 1000 but had multiple top 10 in playlist ranks and w/l percentage. In canada top 50 and ffa number 1 in Canada for halo 5 multiple seasons. If your playing halo do octagon and play h3 ranked. If your playing cod go into black ops 2 league play rip tdm ranked. Lower your sens I play on like 2-3 for halo about the same for cod. Map awareness this is huge. My gunskill isnt good but my map placement for a flank and multikills or cross shots is how I get a majority of my kills. Knowing where power weapons are when they spawn if they do and knowing where enemies spawn is huge. Watch your teammates if theyre in a firefight step in and save them team shotting wins games. Micromanage your gameplay. Ie in Reach there was healthpacks take 4 shots grab healthpack out dmr oponent.

        • I average around 2 k/d. You need to understand that a fast sensitivity isn't the best way to go. If you are missing easy shots then lower the sensitivity. I would start out at a low sensitivity until you start noticing that tracking targets and your accuracy is getting better then move it up by 1. A fast reaction time. This isn't the end all if you don't have the fastest reaction time. Accuracy and planning is more important. It is nice though if you do have a fast reaction time. Of course it does take time to get a really fast one once you get used to the game plays it gets easier to react to things. Experimenting. You need to understand how things work in the game. How fast someone runs? How many bullets does it take to kill someone? Does my bullets curve when I sway my cursor left and right of the enemy? Just a few examples. Accuracy. Learn how to aim and where. Movement. Get the feeling of how the character moves. Remember you are playing in the shoes of someone else so they will move differently. You can make better decisions in a fight learning the movement of yourself and your opponent. Death. Learn from it. You died because the enemy player outplayed you. Try different strategies. Stop getting mad and blaming him and the game. It was YOUR fault. If you are getting irritated it is time to put the controller down and go do something else. Usually, I go work out. It helps me get all the anger out and gets my heart pumping for the next fight.
