Seriously, some things about SRL are just inexcusable

Running over a tiny (sometimes nigh invisible) pebble can toss your sparrow 80 feet into the f*cking air or cause it to outright explode. Sometimes landing your sparrow (even doing so perfectly) from a big jump has a small chance to either push it backwards or cause a spontaneous explosion. There are two spots on the Venus track where this has happened to me (big drop over the waterfall, and immediately after the teleporter). Hit detection for gates makes no sense half the time. Barely graze it and you get the boost, pass through with almost half your sparrow inside and it counts as a miss. This one is fairly easy to recover from, but it has the potential to happen with almost every gate, so it's still something that should be looked into. Pressing the emote button sometimes does absolutely nothing, sometimes even while in mid-air it does the regular driving emotes (try to do a trick and the guardian just points off to the right or something). Again, relatively easy to recover from (especially if you have the gloves and boots), but it still sucks when it happens. Colliding with someone in mid-air cancels tricks and somehow prevents you from performing new ones during that jump. Maybe it counts as landing on an opponent or something? If that's the case, the game should have a way of differentiating between another sparrow and the ground. That whole Overdrive spontaneous explosion bug (the one supposedly caused by a laggy connection between you and the host). If we had dedicated servers, this wouldn't be an issue. === Yeah, sometimes the mere act of criticising the game, no matter how valid the argument, attracts the kind of people who downvote for the hell of it and call the OP an entitled prick. I'm hoping the people who read this have enough common sense to know that the issues I've pointed out are in no way fair. Someone spontaneously combusting for no goddamn reason on the final lap is nothing less than the game cheating them out of a potential victory. Granted, they don't happen every game, but when they do, it can seriously mess up your attempts to get first place, god forbid you encounter multiple of them. Bungie, I know it's not super high on your priority list, but for future reference please take note of this.

  • my major issues are nearly exactly the same as last year 1 flag detection is scatty at best, get a boost by scraping it one flag and get no boost when driving through one in the middle with my whole screen is blue. 2 the bounce mechanics are insane. how i can bounce up and float like a warlock jump is beyond me. 3 the jump on mars through the portal seems to have an issue where it doesnt quite boost you up, you kind of go in a straight line sometimes and either bounce up and float or fall to your doom. 4 lag where someone can be bumping in to you from behind when you cross the line and when the placements are put up the person bumping me from behind as we cross is now ahead of me? not sure how that happens but it was a problem last year and is still here. but a new one coming in at number 5 5 sbmm and this really doesnt go. wow it just makes the game less about racing and more about luck as to who gets bumped least. for a racing league its mainly a bumper car league.

    Today has been extra terrible.......every race, almost every lap I seem to hit something and uncontrollably barrel roll and explode. I usually have no trouble hanging in the top three...every race I ran today I was in 5-6 except one race I got first but was lucky because two other racers glitched out and exploded in the Vex gate on infinite descent before the finish line. I'm assuming they experienced the same thing I was.

    • I have a massive issue with the launcher jump on Mars. I can pitch forward, I can pull back, I can boost, I can not boost, I can leave the whole thing alone - yet every single time I either land by the skin of my teeth, or I sail into the chasm. Bugged to hell.

        • My weird experience which probably is in my head is that for two nights in a row I tried to finish the quest but could not come in first no matter what. Before that I won plenty of races. Then the third night I tried and won plenty of races and finished the quest with ease. It felt like those two days in between I was just not meant to win.

        • I gotta be honest, if there wasn't a quest that required you to place 3rd quite a few times and then 1st a couple times, none of this would bother me. When I first picked it up a few days after the Dawning launched, I didn't pay attention to the quest/bounties so i had fun, but once I cared a little about where I placed, these things drove me nuts. But, now I've completed the quest on one character so I'm done racing and it's all good. It's annoying that they didn't fix it after the first SRL (which I didn't participate in because I had already dropped the game after TTK ticked me off) but when you think about how garbage the physics in this game are in general, it starts to make a little more sense as to why they didn't, and I believe couldn't, fix this stuff.

          • All valid complaints and issues that should be fixed. However Destiny is not built on a racing game-engine. It was not designed with racing sparrows in mind and the team had to work with what they had. I would be surprised if there weren't bugs related to it all. I just take SRL for what it is and that's a racing game built in an FPS game-engine.

              My SRL issues are: 1. Gate Detection 2. Jump/Warp Gates failing to get you across. Explaination: The Mars Canyon jump, I have had the jump fall short on 5 occassions. Once where I just fell to my doom. A second time where I smacked into the canyon side/edge and exploded. A third time where I hit the edge and my sparrow spun out as it fell into the canyon. A fourth time where I hit the edge, and sparrow shot up into the sky and floated down...spinning in place. A fifth time where my sparrow got stuck on the edge forcing me to dismount to get free. All 5 times it put me in last place. Edit: No matter how I pitch my Sparrow this happens. 3. Mega-Bumps Bumping is a part of all racing games, hitting a boost and ramming is as well. But if I am side by side with a pkayer and we get a boost it should not ricochet one of us into oblivion. We both should just get a large knock to the side or stay locked up. Also, if I side boost to dodge something the bump from it shouldn't send my fellow racer spiralingout of control. I dislike this because I try not to bump but game mechanics alone give off the impression that I am doing it intentionally. 4. Not enough Amanda Holiday This is HER event. I dislike hearing my ghost more than her. I also would like her to comment on the carnage/wrecks. 5. Enemy HP I feel that the enemies need to be more fragile when racing. A head on collision at whatever Mach we are going should KILL even a Shielded Minotaur & Captain.

            • The things that bother me the most are the gates not registering when I go right through them, and other players barely nudging me with the top of their sparrow but somehow launching me across the screen. Nevermind that when I try ramming someone with my sparrow they don't budge an inch.

              • When it comes to SRL, you just have to accept that it's an accessory to the game and not take it too seriously. I mean, it's set up to keep all 6 racers in a pack. Which means bumping, grinding, hitting shit you shouldn't or wouldn't have if you didn't have 5 other sparrows colliding the entire time. I can't tell you how many times I've led the entire 3 laps and then at the very last corner, make one tiny mistake and all 5 guys pass me. Happens all to often. I used to get pissed, but just realized that this game isn't meant for racing. It's just extra crap to do when you're bored. Don't sweat it. Just know that it's meant to be like it is. Everyone, even the shittiest sparrow operators can come in first place. It almost always come down to luck. So I just don't worry about it. That's my advice sir. It's a silly mode in a fps, just race and don't sweat it. Save that for dirty dirty trials.

                  You'll never see dedicated servers for Destiny; its publisher Activision can't even be bothered to get them for Call of Duty on console, only PC... I, too, have encountered issues performing emote in mid-air, mostly on the Mercury and Venus tracks. I've also seen frequent proximity lag drops when one or more players in the match have a sh**ty connection, which sometimes tells the game they should win matches when they're behind you on the track.

                • I won't be playing the dawning or SRL whatsoever. There's nothing worth playing for. I've got an icebreaker and who cares about a solar or void thunderlord when there are much better machine guns in my vault? I'm not supporting SRL because I don't want the Dev time put into a racing mode. I'd much prefer it was put into fixing bugs and making new content where you can shoot baddies.
