Why is Destiny not free on my Xbox One?

Nothing but positivity about Destiny, it's a fun game, I just have one large issue. I purchased the full version on the xbox 360 back in September I saved up for weeks to afford the steep 70$ it was. I played it heavily until I realized how stripped back the 360 version was. I then spent the rest of my time saving for an xbox one. Youd think spending 70$ on a game on an old system youd atleast get the game you BOUGHT on your new system, but no. Thats not the case, I have no intentions of futhering myself with Bungie if they cannot even give me what I paid for, says alot about the company when they need to bleed their customers dry in order to live their luscious lifestyles.

  • Unfortunately if you wish to play Destiny on Xbox one you will be required to purchase Destiny. You paid for a product on Xbox 360, and even though they are the same family systems they are different consoles, therefore not everything paid and played for on one will mean it's free on another. Bungie did offer an upgrade for the base game when they announced the digital upgrade program, but that was for digital purchases of the base game only purchased before a certain date, and if you're being asked to pay then unfortunately you did not qualify. Right now if you owned The Taken King on Xbox 360 you can get the collection for a discounted price until January.

    • Have fun! If you intend to not buy it on the new system, then don't. It's your choice. I'm amazed you're complaining over the price of purchasing an Xbox One license of the game when you shelled out hundreds of dollars on a new system. It makes you look more like a beggar than someone simply complaining about the price of purchasing the license for the game (which, by the way, if you actually own everything on the older generation, there's an option to purchase it more cheaply on the new one... please see: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p/destiny-rise-of-iron/c1cjbxdgpgn5 and log in).

      • You have the game you paid for and if you had purchased it digitally, for a limited time they offered a free upgrade which almost NO other game offered. Most of the games were between a $10-20 upgrade free. So you were able to upgrade to the XB1 for Y1, TDB, and HOW. Unfortunately, the promotion for all of that has expired. This is like saying that you have Super Mario Brothers for the classic NES so when they released the versions for Wii/etc.; that you should have gotten that free as well (hint: you didn't). There were ZERO games that I can find that upgrade for free. Certain ones allowed for Season Passes (COD Ghosts / Assassin's Creed) that upgraded for free but you had to buy the version of the game. Seriously, stop it, just stop it. The game (Destiny: The Collection) is $40 right now at Best Buy ($32 if you have GCU) and it has been fluctuating on sale for the past several weeks as low as $25. If you are not happy, you are just going to have to deal with it.

        • You got the game you paid for. You paid for it on the 360. Go and play it. How many games do you know that you buy on 1 system and get it for free on another? Thats right....NONE!
