Rare Halo: Combat Evolved Cover?
I noticed that 99.99% of all Halo: Combat Evolved game covers have the words "GAME OF THE YEAR" on a golden sticker towards the left of the box.
I noticed one day that on ebay I found one that didn't have Game of the Year on it. I bought it and it looks like it's one of the ORIGINAL editions.
Can anybody explain?

I have both. The GOTY cover was just too cool to pass up.

Bought my copy June 2002 (six months too late if you ask me.) It was "Game of the Year" and holofoil.

I noticed that. I dunno. I did buy one that was all holofoil but I thought it was like a bootleg. Man I wish a Bungie guy where hear to help us out I say that if you own the original case then that is the holy grail of Halo

While we're on this, can anyone tell me why some copies have a holofoil type of cover?

Yeah I have one of those, one of the first in the U.K. It also has an error in the manual and has two manufacture locations (Ireland and Germany, one pasted over the other). GOTY edition is also a patched version, fixing some bugs; so my version is an older version of Halo, although there is little gameplay difference.

ya had to be purchased at almost the same time as the original xbox, which is when i got my copy

There's not as many out there no. It's a first edition cover, so in like 50 years it might be worth something. :D

You answered your own question, it's one of the original editions, but there's nothing in particular about that.
