Is everyone gonna continue their Destiny journey if D2 is a hard reset?

I really don't want the last 2 years with my guardian to be a waste and mean nothing. Can I have my rep and emblems carry over? 178 New Monarchy with my Titan alone... Edit- thanks for all the responses guys, even those I disagree with make some really good points. I guess I'm just really attached to my characters and gear hahaha

  • I'm probably going to pass on Destiny 2. Bungie effectively fleeced us all with Destiny 1. I loved year 1, but after that it just became downright awful.

    • Well that really depends on what kind of changes Bungie has to offer this time around, now I'm not the first person to make remarks on some of Bungie's "less than savoury" decisions in the past, but they have tried to fix things, well within Activision's expectations anyhow, and they love and listen to their community. At the end of the day did I enjoy the journey Destiny and Bungie have taken me on? Yes. Do I believe that a hard reset in Destiny 2 will make everything I've done soo far pointless? No. I loved every moment of building my character, I have the experience and character to show for those 200+ hours spent, not to mention the friends who experienced it with me. Will I give them my money now just for a sequel? Not until I'm impressed by something new brought to the table. TLDR; Destiny Years 1-3 were a great time and was not a waste, but I'm not giving Bungie my money until they really re-work story and a few game elements

    • Depends. First off, I'm not preordering. If bungie leans more towards the rpg side, then I'll consider it. There's a laundry list of things I want. I don't have to have them all, but after the trailers before launch, I have certain expectations. It's unlikely bungie will make all the changes I want, but some would be nice. If they don't make any of them and this is destiny/CoD again, I won't buy it.

    • I enjoy playing destiny. I've never invested as Much time in any other game ever. No matter what they decide to do I will buy destiny 2 and I'm sure I'll enjoy it either way.

    • Nope. Never getting another Destiny anything ever again. Not with the greedy pathetic pos corporate scumbags who want money and nothing else. Not a good, fun experience. They want more money. Thats it. Too much BS going on behind the scenes, Bungie will never change. And with that half a meatball Luke in charge, itll only get worse. Have fun spending 60 on a game, then 100+ more after they release dlc and more overpriced emotes and armor.

      • I don't know if I'll continue yet - with or without a hard reset. The last 2 years of constant nerfs/buffs, and all of the strange things we have seen with this game. I have played this game longer than I have any other game, but they'll have to show me something pretty amazing to get me to buy the next one... AND they'll have to back it up. Not show us what we want at e3, then give us 1/3 of that with the actual game...

      • Destiny needs to keep players interested, so this final lap needs to be interesting enough for people to buy D2. I will probably buy the next game to see what happens next(a lot can change in 9 months), but if a lot of these issues still exist, I will quietly bow out like many others already.

      • Resetting characters would be ok, but if they can't fix their idiotic servers then I'll pass. I'm not even talking about dedicated servers either, P2P can stay. It's the dumb shit of getting booted to orbit with various errors or even no errors and not being able to join back to your team. I hadn't played Destiny in 2 weeks until I was free this weekend and I managed to log about 4 hours over three days because of this. I joined some friends in a trials match and at one point was stuck at the title screen for a couple hours. I'm in TN and ran several speed tests to servers in WA and was averaging 80mb down and 30mb up with ~8ms ping. I obviously got better results to servers that are closer to me but I just wanted to confirm everything was fine. I find it unacceptable to be consistently booted out of activities or the tower for no reason.

      • I think maybe the people who are answering "yes" don't understand the question. You guys would be okay with having literally everything you've done in this game for three years be rendered meaningless overnight? I have almost 92 days invested into this game. That was always okay with me because I thought I was building something that would last 10 years (which is all I've ever wanted from a game). What we're talking about here is killing a game that we've spend $100s on and then buying a new and different game. Everything we've done would be finished; as in sold-to-GameStop finished. How is that not infuriating to think about for anyone who's played more than 10 hours of Destiny? Like I said, what kept me coming back was the fact that I never felt like I was playing something finite. There is no technical reason for a modern video game to ever "end." Destiny has gotten progressively worse over the past two years and we've put up with a lot of unambiguous greed on the parts of BOTH Bungie and Activision. Rendering all we worked for in year 1 obsolete; refusing to give us even a fraction of the vault space we need; adding pointless intangible items for real money for kids who "borrowed" their parent's credit cards to buy; instituting lazy changes that ruined PvE to placate PvP players who couldn't be bothered to learn how to avoid sniper lanes; forcing changes that make the Crucible more difficult for skilled players so scrubs could feel better about themselves. I could go on for days. If for some reason Cozmo reads this: I know I'm just one person, but I will most definitely NOT be here in Destiny II if my current character is not 100% compatible. You don't need to make a new game to get new players. Give them a spark of light item; we don't care. Add subclasses or even a 4th or even 5th class. Either way, the game is missing a healer-type and an buff-teammates/de-buff enemies type. Like white mage/red mage from other games. Apart from Crucible maps, we've been in one country on earth (albeit a somewhat large one :P ). Let's go to Brazil or Hong Kong. My colleagues are ALWAYS finding engrams there so it might be awesome.

        • I'll be honest...this question doesn't really affect my opinion about D2. I have no plans to continue for several other reasons: 1. No dedicated servers, leading to frustratingly unpredictable and uneven gameplay. 2. Constant rebalancing, with the result that our otherwise kick-ass characters spontaneously become weak overnight until we adjust to the new meta. 3. The growing dependence on micro transactions, which make it impossible for Bungie to portray themselves as prioritizing gameplay over profit. 4. The (perhaps unintentional) condescending tone in official Bungie communication which makes it sound like if a player is frustrated, it's the player's fault for not playing the game the 'right' way. 5. The surprising number of bugs in recent new content, and the relatively slow progress in addressing/eliminating them. 6. The recent trend of re-skinning old content and presenting it as new. 7. A personal desire to branch out and try other games after a year of letting Destiny dominate my free time. Admittedly, many of these thoughts are subjective, and could be open for debate. At the end of the day, the ride to this point has been extremely fun but also really bumpy. Basically, I've lost hope that Bungie functions in such a way that it can truly retain the fun and remove the fundamentally jarring elements which currently make Destiny the thrilling-yet-mildly-masochistic experience it is.
Until then, you can find me feeding my addiction in SRL or strikes... ;-)
• No. They made Destiny then lost their way. Destiny reborn from the same parents would be expected to be what, exactly? Destiny is a shooter where Shooting is a bad thing, and, good guns cannot be tolerated. Destiny2 will perfect that oxymoron! I'm sure the cry babies will lap it up spotless... "Hey Bungie he shot me with that gun, it's OP, nerf it" "Ok, Mr $$-bags, well make its bullets bloom!" "Not good enough, bloom can still stop my lag switch red bar glitch kill streak run to my 15 KDR!" "Ok, we'll make your bullets curve around cover and still strike although your target is long hidden, but when you score the kill we'll make his orb appear where he WAS a minute ago!" "Ok, that works, I'll buy D2!" "Another satisfied customer"!

            • It's done been stated we can transfer our characters to destiny 2. Besides our characters, not even IGN knows what is transferable and what ain't. All that is known so far is that bungie confirmed with IGN that our characters WILL be transferable.

              • I'd probably enjoy a hard reset. Breath some fresh air into it. I personally don't plan on using the same set of equipment for the lifespan of the Destiny franchise regardless of whether or not it is reset.

              • I am not buying because the newer raids are not fun. All it is is stupid mechanics. Hop through a hoop 10 times. Tap your heals. Repeat that 5 times and dont mess up once. Not fun.

They must separate pve and pvp stats in evert single way. Then yes, I'm fine with a fresh start. I've got over 1000 hours, playing since the very beginning and have 95% of all exotics, roughly. But if they keep our progress? I won't complain. I just want a big ass vault (an extra few MB per *ACCOUNT on their server) and i liked pve in year 1 so much b4 the mass nerfings. Hope pvp gets what they want: balance We'll all be content, lol, or close enough

                • The only thing that I would want to do in D2 is to just play as my character. Just carry over his history of killing gods and stuff. I also really like raiding. So that's also another factor into me buying D2. I just hope that there is more than one raid at launch.

                  • They're not gonna do a character reset, because they wanted you and your guardians 10 year "adventure" together.

                      • I'm addicted to Destiny, and have tried to play other games while in the slow times, but none have kept me interested. As long as D2 is the same type of game play as it is now, I think it would be great to start from scratch with new characters, but that's just me. Thanks for ur post!

                        • I'll definitely play even with a full reset, but I feel they should at least do a last hurrah. If you have save data on your console, it uses the most played character in part of the opening cutscene. Some crazy battle where we see our ghost get killed and then our character getting killed. Of course the only way they could do this is if they open the game with the last city falling. Only threat we currently have that could do that is the cabal or vex.
