Crucible Restriction

I just received a Crucible Restriction message regarding my network connection. I would like to know how connections are evaluated. I am an IT professional, and I constantly check my connection. I have 200 Mb/s service, and it is very stable. If this restriction is the result of player feedback, you would do well to verify the connections yourself. I believe this restriction has been levied in error. Please enlighten me to the method of checking network connections.

  • Destiny, unlock many other services/games, checks for data packet loss. Obviously since pvp needs to be as smooth and packet loss free as it can be, anything over a certain threshold will be a red flag. So it doesn't matter if you have a stable connection to your Apple TV or watching YouTube on your computer. If you lose say 0.5 seconds of data several matches a day, every day you play, both the game and other people are going to notice, because they're seeing you teleport or are unable to do damage on you. Bungie can see your connectivity and probably have visual graphs indicating if and where packets of data are dropped during all your activities in the game. Alternatively, if you play with other people in fireteams, if one of them was lag switching or causing you all to lag together, that could possibly be flagged. In any case, Bungie is not going to answer you. They do not discuss their methods of detection, nor should they, because that would help alert cheaters and lag switchers on how they might avoid detection.

  • Same situation here. I'm hard wired directly into a NetDuma router which allocates a portion of the available bandwidth to my console. 60 mb down with 10 me up. Never had a warning and I've played for years. Did not even play Trials last week. I believe my "restriction" from Crucible and Trials, and SRL apparently, are a mistake. This is the first truly negative experience I am having with Bungie.

  • Well, start at a basic principle: check your logs on your router. Do you have excessive packet loss? Are you making the mistake of playing wirelessly? It can literally take weeks or months to determine whether a restriction is deserved, so they aren't just throwing these things out left and right at anyone and everyone who gets reported by players. All the reports do is say "hey, a lot of people have issues when playing with this person, maybe see if there really is a problem". Did you maybe play some trials matches recently with someone from lfg or similar? Did they maybe ask for donations or other compensation for a lighthouse run? Did opponents sometimes drop out of those matches? If you said yes to any of those, that could also be the cause of your restriction. Gaining benefit in trials from someone else's lag or cheating is also restriction worthy.

    • Bungie does not discuss or overturn restrictions or bans. They don't just take player reports into consideration. You could have 200gb down but if the host player is only on 250kb up then you down speeds don't matter.
