Is it scummy to promote my youtube/twitch in the forums?
I am an incredibly small youtuber/twitch streamer and I am struggling to find a way to grow. I know trials carries are the best way to get started on twitch, and I can certainly do those, but in order to carry someone I have to actually have people in the stream to carry. So it seems to me that bungie.net is a great place to go, yet I see a lot of people who get upset when someone promotes their channel on the forums. Needless to say this has left me with almost no way to promote my channel.
Edit - lots of responses. The only issue is that a lot of the people who are saying it is wrong or scummy are doing it in a highly negative way, also they aren't offering up any suggestions. If you going to create a problem with no solution than your not helping. That isn't to say you can't disagree with me. Just that if you do then don't say, "yes your scum" because that's insulting, and not true because I'm not advertising my channel here.

I think you should use this channel to promote your stream. Post free trials carries, and you'll gain streamers if you're good. If you copy other streamers, you won't gain viewers.

Every social outlet is a promotion outlet. If you want to promote then go for it. You don't get followers just by putting up a video. You have to think it with a business mindset, even if it's not true business. And no, I don't stream. I just have experience in promoting. You have to be somewhat shameless.

I certainly wouldn't be trying to break into an already saturated market, even if I was exceptionally skilled and had a USP kind of personality and/or gimmick. It just makes me think of all the sheep that chase talent shows around the country. It seems that right now, every man, woman, their dog, their cat, their goldfish, and their unborn kids are trying to succeed in streaming. Are there any folks out there that just enjoy playing games without feeling compelled to want everyone else watch them do it? Anyways, that is my own opinion, and although I disagree with the whole bandwagon mentality, I ain't going to try and dissuade you. Go for it. If it's something you genuinely want to do for the right reasons (unlike half of all current streamer wannabes) then it's all good. Don't worry about spamming the recruitment forum with self promotion of your stream. Every other post in there is someone trying to drum up interest for their streams, so one more won't hurt ;) Go for it.

Who would've thought that such an oversaturated area of the internet could be so difficult to be something in?! Really. As a YouTuber put it back in 2010... you're late to the party. You're not just late, but at the afterparty cleaning up. Imagine how things are 6 years later? You either get lucky with an audience(kids) or you don't. Maybe going outside and finding something better to do will help.

I suppose it's all pointless to a degree.......but anyway. By no means am i knocking you for being a young person, hell, im envious! But sure man, exposure and personality are the 2 components of this twitch thing, from what i understand. First, no matter how good you are, how witty you are, weird/funny/eccentric...you catch my drift, you must get your name out somehow. Seems like this would be the obvious choice to spam a few posts a day. You're not hurting anyone. or messing with this forum at all. If i played trials I would watch your twitch. Just don't show people load-outs and all that I hate watching lil timmys copy cat build/load-outs instead of figuring stuff out on there own.

It's no scummy and it's not a bad thing. Bungie even has a twitch channel and a whole section of the bungie website is dedicated to twitch streamer. So no, it's not scummy or a bad thing. Fuk what they say and do what's good for you.

Dear OP Guardian, It is never scummy to self promote! I'm not sure if I can say most guardians here are trolls but I would think by all the trolling posts and flames to start stuff it would make one believe this is the case, I digress. Advertise your channel all you want here, and as many places as you can. I would suggest you add some game play or whatever it is you do, it gives people something shiny to look at and may help the chances of you getting a like or a follow greater. Don't be afraid to add "fails" in you videos also, a good laugh always helps me make a decision also.

Mate watch the stream/past broadcasts for [spoiler]RCW05[/spoiler] he's the only streamer I watch (because the stream itself is entertaining and friendly) and is also the best player you never heard of. His Trials streams are raffle only, no paid carries.
