From a lore perspective, is there only one of each exotic?

Is there only one of every exotic in the Destiny universe or are there multiple copies of each item floating around out there?

  • It varies. For example, Suros, Mida, and icebreaker were somewhat numerous. But other exotics like raze lighter, young wolfs howl, and thorn, are singular

    • A few would have been replicated. Things like nemesis star and suros regime but malice, last word, thorn, zhalo and red death are probably one offs

    • I would have to say no. Variants have been replicated and produced by the foundries such as Suros Regime, Invective, Truth, Nemesis Star etc. Saladin makes mention to how there are and were several gjallarhorn launchers. Thorn would likely be yes but if I'm not mistaken there are at least a few more in circulation witht the new RoI grimoire for the crucible arenas. To duplicate the ability to burn through your enemies wirh Hive magic seems unlikely though. Nechrochasm, I would think there is only one. Touch of Malice, yes only one.

      • The red death's description says that "Vanguard policy urges guardians to destroy this weapon on sight" so there must have been multiple versions of this weapon

        • It varies between exotics. The Gjallarhorn has many floating around as it was a mass produced weapon for a very short time following Twilight Gap. Likewise the Suros Regime saw mass production until the parts became too rare and expensive to continue using causing Suros Foundries to switch over to making cheaper lesser weapons. On the other hand you have weapons like Bad Juju, Touch of Malice, and Hardlight that are one of kind. In the middle you have weapons like Thorn and the Chaperone who only have one original, but copies have since been made due to the original weapon's fame.

        • Some of them are like Red Death and Gjallerhorn are multiples but others like Thorn and SGA there is only one.

          • Yes, though replicas could theoretically be made.

          • Some, like The Last Word, yes. Others, like Gjallarhorn, no.

            • Lore perspective there is only original. There are copies floating around for people's amusements.

              • For most of them, yes. However there are cases where multiple probably exist. Twilight garrison, hard light, suros, hawkmoon, Monte... Just about every exotic that doesn't have a grimoire attached to it.

              • Some exotics (Gjallarhorn, SUROS regime, ice breaker) there are multiple. Others are only one. (From a lore perspective)

              • It's been confirmed that there are multiple gjallerhorns in the world of destiny but as they were made from the armour left behind at twilight gap they all look different

              • As others have mentioned, it varies. Icebreaker is known to have multiple prototypes in the wild, while others like Touch of Malice would obviously be one of a kind. Then there's others which are left ambiguous such as Thorn and Red Death.

              • Some probably yes. Like thorn, where is was made by whoever for whatever reason And some probably no. Like suros, where its a "relic from the past" and could just be considered an antique that was once produced for a by a major company (suros)
