So I'm sure someone's probably wondered by now. "Why are the cabal here? Why are they so hell bent on staying even though they're getting torn up left and right?"
Well today I'm going try and answer that.
As we know, the Cabal are a heavily militarized race. They have an empire (somewhere) with an emperor that has absolute rule on the entirety of the Cabal. The Cabal blow up moons for getting in their way, they are kicked out of the empire when they go to war. Blah blah blah, you've heard this spiel before. Let' s get to find out why their here and why they are bent on staying.
The Cabal have interests on Mars and Mercury. They have a particular interest in some of our old golden age stuff and the vex. I believe the reason they're here to stay is maybe more obvious than what we think. Based on where they've deployed special units, we can tell they're after warmind tech.
Knowing this, I think we can take a decent guess what they're after. I assume they want to study our warmind tech and make their own warmind with it. They also may want to improve their warmind by adding on some vex attachments. When you consider what we know about the cabal, there are two possible reasons why they want this advanced warmind.
Option one could be that they want it to make the empire more powerful than ever, so much so that they may rival the abilities of the light and the dark. Option two, the cabal here may be trying to make the warmind to orchestrate a sort of coup. The cabal here aren't necessarily living the best life. They are fighting on every front and losing territory by the day. All their commanders are now dead, and there have been hints of rebellion here and there.
“Mutiny,” Tlu’urn whispers. “You should mutiny.”

Some pledge allegiance to that far Empire, obeying their ancient marching orders. Some do not. They disagree among themselves about the answers.

A hologram of a spinning golden planet, in stasis, turning gently. You can see the storms moving over its face. But when the Commanders congregate below it, when they activate whatever controls are below, it changes. Fissures appear on its face. Is that their home?
The cabal here certainly can't be happy about constant losses, but their emperor is probably superior in every field of war, so a simply lashing out wouldn't be enough to free them from his grip. Now if they were to make something that could effectively beat the emperor at his own game, (like say, a super warmind) they may have a chance to gain their freedom. They may even be making battle plans with that hologram of their home world.
Either way, if they succeed in their plans, it could be bad for us. (as we're all familiar with what Rasputin alone can do.)
Hope you enjoyed, feel free to share your thoughts.
I'd also like to give shout out to the Ashen Conflux for sparking this theory. A talk with Paradox and Jcaf brought up the possibility that the cabal want to revolt.

Back to master thread:

I would like to hope that whatever signal was sent by the Cabal to what one would guess is their homeworld in TTK, would bring about the full Cabal fleet having found a force that had caused them so much damage. That's my hope for a kicking off point for D2.

2 RepliesThey aggressively pushed in the opposite direction of Oryx. Remember, they have no word for retreat.

3 RepliesWhat I don't get is that the cabal have some control over the dust palace, where the clovis bray facility is, which holds info about siva. The fallen devils, who have NO KNOWN control over the dust palace or any Martian outpost, decide to come in and take siva when the cabal could have used it to start winning (for once) and make a good dlc about it. BUT NO, bungo had to make the next dlc about lord saladbar and how much he sounds like a ripoff optimus prime voice actor. I don't think the cabal have had a proper story mainly focussed on themselves yet. If you look at the abandoned quest computer they don't even have a quest from year 1! Bungo better make destiny 2 about cabal or I will have to sulk around in the division again.

4 RepliesFal remember the planet busting monster that was supposed to be in destiny?

2 RepliesLegionary 1: "Hey." Legionary 2: "Yeah?" Legionary 1: "You ever wonder why we're here?"

They want to kill us with their algebraic epressions

They heard there'd be punch and pie

11 RepliesYou...you ever wonder why we're here?

5 RepliesMore than anything they are getting beat because they haven't started paying much attention to this solar system yet. The cabal force on Mars is pretty much a scout team from the cabal empire. That's what the outbound signal was for I believe coinciding with what you were saying. The cabal in our system could be letting the greater empire know that there is value to be had in our system and greater enemies than were originally predicted. If the cabal really wanted to start something or got the chance to, I doubt even we would win, much less the other alien races

1 ReplyThis is one of the theories that I just love, especially with rumors of Destiny 2's storyline revolving around the Cabal. 😁

4 RepliesEdited by SinfjotliVIP: 11/24/2016 2:24:37 AMI would imagine that every Militaristic society has an element of discordance that believes revolt will solve their problems. With your theory in place, revolt and all, why was the Cabal attack on the Dreadnaught such a panicked response? Was this their Vanguard perhaps? An expeditionary force of sorts? And did Oryx act as a spear in their endeavors in and around Mars? I like the idea of a Warmind/Vex hybridization of technology, heck, even throw in some SIVA there somewhere, and I'd like Rasputin and the Traveler working in concert to pull it off. Rampant theories have been mentioned about the Traveler healing itself, what if Rasputin is doing that and more? Evolving in a sense? This mishmash of technology and evolution is a nice counterpoint to the failed Cabal incursion, but the Cabal response to Oryx in reference to all the Destiny conspiracy theories always left me wanting more.

4 RepliesYou like saying Cheers a lot don't you Fal?

My impressions were, until the Cabal actually did something in TTK which kinda shot holes in it, was the Emperor of the Cabal sent them all to maybe capture our system then died somehow, meaning that he thought we'd be a pushover then died without realising we wouldn't be- and the cabal deployed here, obviously not getting any orders, not getting to go home because of principle, and not doubting the Emperor, are staying here to get their asses kicked
-
They're here so we have something to shoot on Mars. I don't know why, but Bungie figured it'd be boring to leave it uninhabited.
-
They're Hungry for Turkeys. And only want to get Fatter.

1 ReplyThere looking for one of two things a McDonalds or a Burger King not some war mind

3 RepliesThey thought that maybe they'd make friends in this solar system. Turns out they made a terrible mistake.

For target practice.

For the snacks

1 ReplyI don't recall why, but for some reason Y1 gave me the impression they were after Vex tech for time travel
-
This leaves an opening for us to team up with a Cabal at some point to conquer a brutal emperor. That would be sweet.
-
3 RepliesI agree with Stormageddon924, they are here to protect the Fifth Element!!

2 Repliesthe cabal do what they do because if they don't they can't go home.
pretty sure it says somewhere that the cabal don't get to go home unless they win or something
3 RepliesWhat if the Cabal are in their Golden Age and us Guardians are their Darkness trying to destroy them?
-
2 RepliesCabal are stupid. They are brutes. But there's some one who's at the top of their empire who listens to what's out there. Mainly us. And they keep deploying dumb ass cabal to try and intercept what we are after before we get it. Vex tech. Sword logic. They're just a bunch of dumbasses with rockets scampering to get at it all and they fail every time.
