100 up/down (Sweden), always green, banned from PvP!?

Upon logging in today I just received two notifications, one saying that I'm banned from PvP for 1 week, and Trials for 2 weeks. WTF. I can count the times I have seen myself have a red bar on one hand. Seriously. I'm sure I have been more often, but seriously, the times that I'm red it would seem that everyone is red/yellow bar, as a result of being far apart, say Sweden/the US, not my connection. I have a 100 up/down LAN cable connection and of course my ISP may have issues OCCASIONALLY but come on. Sweden is a fore-runner in the world in terms of broadband and connection stability and I have experienced no issues personally whatsoever, in Destiny or otherwise. Can someone at least give me a more detailed explanation? How does this work? My gut says that this is due to salty players overusing the report function. I'm no god at PvP (~1700 elo, 26 flawless) but it's honestly the only reason I can think of. And if that is the case this is just ridiculous, anyone can report anyone as many times as they want, no matter the reason. And if this is the case, don't match me against anyone other than players in Scandinavia! I have over a thousand hours in the game (and a lot of money) and if this really is happening I'm not sure I will support Bungie ever again or come back to this game, purely on principle.

  • I'm in the same boat. Received a tweet week restriction from trials AND regular crucible, even private matches. I run an ookla speed test before every session and turn off all devices I can before playing. I was green/yellow most of the past two weeks out of the blue, so I self-imposed a limited amount of trials and crucible. I think I played 9 games of trials total. Not 9 cards, 9 games. Got restricted anyways. There needs to be better way to communicate connection strength to the player. If all I see of green or yellow, I think everything is okay.

Was likely an issue at the peering level your ISP needs to investigate. Level3 has been having issues off and on. Verizon FiOs and their ALTER.NET divisions are no stranger to brownouts and outages either. Telia, Telstra, TiNet...a long list of repeat offenders. Couple that with all the ramped up traffic this time of year, increases in how many people are streaming now instead of using broadcast services... It gets pretty ugly sometimes. May want to do some testing around the regions you know you play with at some internet health or pingtest type sites. If you can build a profile of sorts...maybe some tracerts showing signs of congestion/packet loss and get that info to your ISP's tier3 support they may pinpoint some issues to escalate. I know...sounds like a lot of work. But if you are familiar and comfortable with the process, it can really pay off sometimes. Actually brought about some big changes for us here in the Carolina's a couple years back troubleshooting similar issues for another game. Took time and persistence...but they adopted some new routing rules that really cleaned things up along the eastern seaboard.

    • There's more to it than simply bandwidth. Firstly, bandwidth isn't that important for gaming unless you're on the REALLY REALLY low end... like < 1 mb upstream. Latency/Ping and line quality are more important. Secondly, Destiny requires your Router to be configured in a VERY - SPECIFIC - WAY so the game has minimal issues Please see the Network Support Guide. It mostly boils down to A) No WiFi - or any other wireless network stuff going on B) Make sure Ports A-Z are open properly C) Make sure either uPNP is enabled, OR Port Forwarding, OR DMZ... but not a combination of any of them.

          • Doesn't matter how fast your connection is. It's all about the distance, hops, line quality, ISP, router setting etc. etc. etc.

            • I believe you. Bungies networking is really bizarre in the way it provides feedback with regards to connection. The best example I can give you is: There was a post back in the day where a Player A showed a video of Player B killing Player A from beneath the map. It shows everyone in the game as green bar and so Player A naturally reports the guy for cheating. Uniquely enough Player B was also on the forums and had recorded his gameplay. From his perspective it actually showed Player A as red bar while everyone else was green bar. So Player A reported Player B for cheating when in reality Player A was the one lagging. Yet the interesting scenario from this was on Player A's console it showed him green bar while to EVERYONE else he was redbar. This is what I believe happened to you and unfortunately that's on Bungie's networking and you got shafted for it.

              • Hello neilisk, Destiny has both Bans and Restrictions. Bans are permanent and Restrictions are temporary timeouts. Bungie won't discuss or overturn any Bans or Restrictions. You can read the full Ban/Restriction policy here. The Bungie Security Response team obtains proof of misdeeds, just being reported will not cause a Ban/Restriction. https://twitter.com/deej_bng/status/738841560738070529 If you are experiencing network issues like you said you should take a look at the Networking Guide below. • The report function doesn't mean you just get restricted from those reports. What it means is from there bungie employees look at your account and follow your gameplay for a while and see if something is worthy of restriction or banning. You already admit the connection in unstable, if that means that at times you are negatively impacting gameplay for others, you will get a restriction. Figure out how to stabilize the connection. Or, should I maybe look through your trials history and see how many people get lagged out of your matches?
