We didnt ask how it worked. We asked you to remove SBMM (I don't want it removed, just adjusted. Solution in thread. )

As title states. Edit: There are a lot of misconceptions fabricated by those who don't understand SBMM and what I want done with it to help with lag. Top 1% suffers the most due to low population and distance Top 25% get introduced into more higher skilled lobbies especially with a poor connection. Some could say that this is fine so that there is room for improvement. But it should be balanced. Top 50% have relatively smooth match making. Only if you have a good connection. If you have a bad connection you still have a good chance at getting into laggy matches with higher skilled team mates and enemies. Lower skilled players don't really complain about SBMM but again connection is a major factor in the outcome of the MM settings so I seldom see complaints. A great solution would be. To remove the algorithms that expand connection requirements and skill requirements. And introduce a GEO FILTER so that you will not connect to people outside of an area in your country or your country as a whole. This suggestion will create an improved MM system. Longer times in orbit maybe. But we dealt with it in Y1. We can deal with it again. It depends on if you're comfortable with it. Also if the community wants something and they realize it was a mistake. Then the developers should be able to recognize that it isn't fully working as intended and it needs a fix.

  • Okay OP. The reason for the explanation is so you understand how matchmaking works. As I have explained more than once by now, yes, Destiny's matchmaking system is broken. However, the solution to its issues is not a simple one. It's problems are a direct result of the fact that Destiny has drastically changed since it's initial launch, and the system put in place for matchmaking no longer works effectively. With maybe a year and a half left in this games lifespan, I see no reason, nor does Bungie at this point, to restructure matchmaking to serve and altogether different purpose when they are currently devoting as many of their resources as they can to making a better sequel. They are listening and they're taking notes, but for the future. Destiny is about as complete as it will. We just have to wait.

    • Lol, I love hearing "Solution in thread". Yeah, because random Joe on the forums understands in-depth the mechanics that go into algorithms and servers more than a professional game developer. Sure.

        Re-read that title.
We didnt ask how it worked. We asked you to remove SBMM (I don't want it removed, just adjusted. • Did they remove it? I played clash today and went 24-6, then on my 2nd game I played like crap and still had a 1.5 k/d Haven't had games like that since year 1

      • Take it easy... they just used it as content to talk on that "this week", otherwise would be as empty and the one we got this week. Thou they wont fix it, neither "student of history". Their team is focused on the next dlc/game. Try Duke Nukem remastered... lol

They said no, and even said that sbmm isn't even being used. You should pay attention to what they said. They explained how matchmaking works so that you could understand that you are complaining about something that isn't happening. Get over it and deal with it, or play something else. Edit: Why lie about sbmm being the main tool in matchmaking? Bungie has had no problem telling the community something we didn't want to hear and standing by their decision despite people not agreeing with it or liking it (nerfs, buffs, leaving weapons and activities behind, rng decisions, etc). I don't have a ton of faith in Bungie, but I believe them on this one simply because it doesn't make sense for them to lie. It's way easier for them to just tell the truth on this then lie and have to hide their data and be extra careful lest we somehow find out (which in this day and age of leaks, data mining, and media we probably eventually would). Why take that risk when you can just be honest. Especially with Destiny 2 around the corner, why risk getting caught and pushing away your community before you release your next major title? I don't think the presence of sbmm is a deal breaker for many people. Sure some people don't like it, but it alone isn't going to stop people from playing. If it exists in this game then we have been dealing with it for all this time and people will keep just dealing with it the same way they will with all the other flaws. So why lie about it and risk getting caught and losing your entire community when the lie isn't all that necessary to tell? I'm not blindly believing Bungie, I'm just using logic and trying to offer a different opinion on the subject. A loud minority of this community is very angry about this, and they may not be thinking about the ramifications of Bungie lying about something that honestly isn't that huge of a deal for the majority of the community.

        • I took a break from the forums because of an overwhelming amount of entitlement and a severe lack of ability to understand said entitlement. Imagine my surprise when I come back after two weeks to see one of the most top trending posts being nothing but over entitlement. All of you kids are demanding something that only benefits a very small minority and the developer has told you that giving you what you want is not only in the game already, but if they did it more, you'd be waiting in the -blam!-ing queue for 15 minutes just to play a single game. Whatever, goodbye forums, enjoy spinning your wheels on something you have no right to demand.

          • A small percentage of the forums cried about wanting it. Bungie responded with a no and an explanation. Grow up.

            • Bungo's "Buffed" TWAB post:
Unequal Opportunities The Bungo Ban Hammer is not the only machine we’re ignoring this year. We’re also cracking open the Bungo Propaganda machinations of the Crucible to show you absolutely nothing on what goes on inside. Since last weekend, we’ve seen a resurgence of a conversation about Matchmaking. This is always tends to be an unemotional topic for all of us here at Bungo, seeing as we don’t care about our customers at all. Crucible Matchmaking was designed fast and as easy as possible. These are complex systems that serve millions of players. We just don’t know how to make it work! More people playing the Crucible means lopsided Matchmaking and an angrier community overall. We hear your feedback about how that should work and we here at Bungo completely ignore it. Here are some facts on the matter, provided by an intern in the Matchmaking Quality Team. When it comes to Matchmaking, we had no design goals: • Provide you with a spotty connection at best to your fellow players • Keep the time you spend in orbit between matches to whenever Tuesday to when Hades freezes over • Set a match between you and a red bar warrior opponent …not necessary in that order. Here’s how we go about finding you a match: • First, we identify a pool of available players with a couple of red bar connection’s to you • Within that pool, we choose a couple of players well above your personal skill rating • If we can’t find players within that pool, we widen the variance both red bar connection’s and God skilled players • If THAT doesn’t work, we expand the search again with more red bar connection’s • Once enough players are selected, we break them out into lopsided skilled teams Note: Skill is not a factor in Trials of Osiris. You are matched against players with good connections and similar score cards. That’s a gross dumb downed explanation for our dullard customers of some inadequate engineering. We will also throw in snarky and condescending remarks here on in as well! To summarize: Connection quality is never a priority factor in Destiny Matchmaking. It's the worst criteria for the search, and has no value we’re willing to correct to set the match. When possible, we introduce red bar warrior opponents that will put up an easy kill from you in a fight, but all at the expense of your frustration. We strive to have any idea, but life on the Internet hasn’t given Bungo a clue, so it’s inevitable that you will always see red bars or matches that end with the enforcement of the Mercy Rule. Here are some of the questions people ask when they talk about Matchmaking in Destiny. Why are you teaming me up with weaker teammates? We favor money (Don’t forget to throw money at Eververse!) over quality. If we favored our customers, you’d be more likely to enjoy Destiny and not play any other game (Don’t forget to play a Strike!). If you want better teammates, they’re likely waiting for you in another game that isn’t published from Activation. Why can’t you match Fireteams against Fireteams? If we had a clue of what we’re doing you might actually enjoy playing Destiny. Fireteams can and do still match up against one another, it’s just once in a Blue Moon. What is Destiny’s network tick rate? Combat damage is sampled at 1.21 gigawatts (7.6 times per second). We RNGesus how all of your shots land in every frame of gameplay you can and can’t see. You receive updates on systems like scoring or ammo spawn timers from an Inactivity Host at 6.4 Joules (10 times per year) once in a while. Do you try to force players into a 50% win/loss ratio? Always. As we’ve stated, your personal performance is never a factor in the Guardians you end up confronting in battle, we ALWAYS artificially influence win streaks and/or alter individual player statistics. Why can’t I just relax and enjoy some matches with my friends? We introduced Private Matches to the Crucible with the launch of Destiny: Rise of Iron so that you could do just that. Take matchmaking into your own hands and make the Crucible what you want it to be. And if you don’t like that: Play a Strike or throw money at Eververse! The last time we updated these Matchmaking settings was whenever of this whatever. Today, we continue to ignore everything our customers have shared with us feedback wise because all of it was in the wrong format, tone and font. We just don’t like criticism! We’re never curious about what you our paying customers (Don’t forget to throw money at Eververse!) have to say about Bungo’s game. Our Feedback forum is where we ignore all of your thoughts and ideas. If you’ve taken the time to explain your perceptions of matchmaking, know that our work ignoring you on the Crucible is never finished.
And David Dague:
Frank O'Connor sends his regards. Your Move...
• Does anybody from the UK want sbmm removed? I live in the south (Bournemouth) and can honestly say that lag isn't a big deal for me, or the guys I play with from my local area. I probably encounter a red bar warrior once every few hours and just leave that lobby. I'm just interested to see if it's worse in the rest of the world than over here.

              • Sbmm needs to go, Destiny isn't a competitive game. The entire system would need to be redesigned from the ground up to make it so.

              • lol I'm top 1% and I've just resorted to quitting out of most games. It's not fun playing teams and when I play solo and I get the WORST I mean WORST teammates ever. Hell, I'm drunk right now and I'm still at the top of my team every game? Please explain how everyone on the other team every game ends up with 2k+ points and I'm lucky enough to even have a teammate that breaks 2k. MM in this game is broken as -blam!-

                  • The problem is their process. They say connection is the first and last thing they take into account when matchmaking, but that's the flaw. They look for good connection, then skill, then allow for a wider variance of connection. What should be occurring is they look for connection, then skill, then widen the variance of skill. That way connection is the fixed/unchanging part of the equitation. Currently the fixed part, the foundation, the "base" if you will, is skill. The explanation of why how the system is connection based is logically flawed. It's obviously skill "based" if you think about it because skill is the only variable that's not allowed to change.

                  • No here's how it works. Good connection plus decent players get out into sessions with people who play to damn much an use every crutch in the game to win. Decent players who use wifi get put into sessions populated by bad connectors an the session is lagging as hell or they get put into sessions against people who play to damn much an win every single match. This is how the matchmakeing works for this game decent player get put up against dragons or leeches of this shitty game. But it won't matter cause everyone's prescious destiny 2 will be comeing out soon an since it will be a rushed game set to come out early 2017 it will be shitty an I get to sit back an watch everyone get heart broken.
