How do the Hive evolve?

Before I begin, I would like to say I am new to the lore of destiny. I've only been looking into the Hive tab of the lore, not using other grimoire cards as reference. If there is anything wrong with what I say, please tell me. Thanks! So, how do the Hive evolve? Ghost Fragment: Hive 2 may offer some information. The narrator tells of the Hive walking him through some kind of fortress of theirs. "... Past grisly nurseries hung with pupae. Past writhing worms that they swallow whole." It seems like the nurseries and the worms they eat are right next to each other. So, maybe for Hive to evolve from thrall to acolyte to Knight, etc. they consume more worms like the fallen consume more ether. If you look at the Hive thralls, acolytes, knights, and ogres, you can see a gaping circle on each side of their pelvises. This similar bone structure suggests that they do indeed evolve into each other. However, I think there are two evolution paths for male Hive. There is the standard thrall, acolyte, knight path which is explained above. Then, there is a painful path from thrall to ogre. I think a thrall can choose (or is chosen to) become an ogre if it shows a strong will. In the grimoire card Hive: Ogre, it states "...Apocryphal lore suggests that Ogres undergo terrible transformations as they grow - agonizing rituals that gift them with light and cunning." If a thrall doesn't have a strong will, then that extreme torture the ogres go through would break them. Now, why do I use a thrall as the Hive that turns into an ogre? Again, in referencing bone structure, I say thralls and ogres are most alike. Thanks for reading guardians! I'll see you starside!

  • They have a tithing system in place. There is an hierarchy within the Hive starting at Thralls the weakest and most numerous, all the way to Oryx to ultimate and strongest of the Hive (before we killed him). Say a thrall kills a guardian. The thrall will take enough light and power from our death to sustain himself and then pass the rest up to the next level which is acolytes. The acolytes take their share and pass the rest up. It continues like this all the way up to Oryx. This is in place so that the worms that empower Oryx and his sisters, can be sustained. Because without the amount of offerings and tithing they received their worms would have devoured them.

  • They kill. Seriously. I've read books of sorrow. That's how it's done. Let me explain...
when a hive worm is created, it feeds off of light. The it evolves into a thrall. The thrall kills, takes some light for itself, and passes the rest up the "worm food chain". The thrall has to keep some or else it's worm will consume it. When the thrall grows powerful enough, it evolves into an acolyte, then it repeats. Through knights and wizards, to princes and witches, to death singers and ascendant, to the gods of the hive. Then they make offerings to oryx himself, so he can grow more powerful and will lead the hive to conquer more. If you have any questions, plz ask below, I rarely ever talk this much about lore and I enjoy it. Or If you want to, just message the question at M0jm0n 15, and I'll answer as soon as possible
• Instead of the process breaking them, if the evolution into an Ogre is not working or simply isn't taking place, then Thralls will turn into Acolytes I think

    • A Thrall evolves into a Acolyte when it turns lvl 16 and the an Acolyte evolves into a Knight when it turns lvl 36 ( unless the thrall is a female, in which it evolves into a Wizard.)

        • I like it but one thing. Ogres are mindless killing machines, if the thrall had a strong will wouldn't it keep its mind and thoughts after the process? Because an ogre doesn't listen or think, it only kills. Even the hive have no control over the ogres, they just point them in one direction and let them do what they were made to do, destruction of the light.

        • They don't really "evolve" so much as they have a metamorphic lifecycle. This cycle goes: Larvae->Thrall->Acolyte->Knight/Wizards/King Up until the final stage they have no true gender and are infertile, but seem to be referred to via the female pronoun. Upon taking their final "morph" so to speak they either become truly female (wizards) or truly male (Knights and the King). The only exception to this rule so far is Xivu Arath, who is a Knight but still uses a female pronoun. Hive grow naturally into Thrall, but they have to then accumulate Sword Logic to advance further. It is also possible for a Thrall to be selected to go through a series of painful and dark rituals presides over by Wizards in which they can be turned into Ogres.

          • If it hasn't been pointed out yet, go read the Books of Sorrow. It's the history of how the hive became what they are. Usually you would get the infirmation slowly by gathering all the Calcified Fragments on The Dreadnought, but you can just view it here: http://www.ishtar-collective.net/categories/books-of-sorrow It reads like a story, unlike the rest of the grimoire cards.

            • With Light. I dont remember it in its entirety, but Oryx created a system where tithings will be offered up the chain of command so that all worm-gods could be fed. So for a thrall, it will kill and kill and offer tithings to the acolyte above it, and keep some for itself to 'grow'. An acolyte will tithe to the Wizard or Knight above it, and keep some for itself to 'grow'.

              • In order for them to move up they have to go through the process of the sword logic. A thrall can fight a thrall but will always be one unless it challenges a acolyte and wins then he can become a acolyte itself.

              • Just like any other hive they are born a specific sub species according to their respective tasks.

Malok is what some thralls grow to be if they live long enough. Others are forced to be turned into ogres. Cursed thralls are failed attempts to turn them into ogres.

                • make sure your hive thrall is the only one in your party. make sure its level 19. then give it a rare hive wax and level it to 20. you now have an acolyte.

                • I'd like to point out that I do not do my own research, however love to watch myelin games videos, he dissects almost every bit of lore. The hive increase their power based on how much light they steal, they take what they need, a little more and the rest is passed on to those above them, thrall -) acolyte -) knight/wizard -)ascendent, because of this only the most efficient killers become knights/wizards/ascendents. If you need proof of this you can find two examples in kings fall, at totems when the adepts and acolyte are holding their guns up to the wall they are transferring the light of dead enemy's, the second example is at oryx the light eater ogres are going to be used as a sacrifice of corrupted light to oryx, when you detonate them you release the light and damage him

                • Once you get 25 Thrall candy you can evolve it into a acolyte. Then once you get 100 more you can evolve it into a knight

                    • You should collect Calcefied Fragments and read the grimoires for each one in the Book of Sorrows section in the Enemy section of the grimoire Ok so each Hive starts as a Thrall. Those Worms (capital W) that they breed are what allow them to grow and change, so each eats one upon birth and it resides inside them. A Thrall can be taken and tortured until it becomes an Ogre, or it can grow stronger until it becomes an Acolyte. And Acolyte will eventually turn into either a Wizard (female) or Knight (male). (Note that Hive can basically change gender at will) Some Hive grow powerful enough to become ascendant and take on the Prince morph (like Crota) or the Wizard morph (they grow larger, like the deathsingers). Oryx is the only to have ever taken on the King morph, which is why he looks pretty different (although he does bare a resemblance to Wizards) Oryx actually began as Aurash (female and assumedly in the form of a Thrall), then became Auryx (still female, possibly King morph) once she had grown powerful enough. Then when Auryx spoke with the Darkness and learned how to Take, she became Oryx (male) King of Shapes From the first moment when Oryx/Aurash discovered and accepted the Worms, she was known as the First Navigator and as the King of the Hive. Oryx's sisters hav always been female and after accepting the Worms remained in either Prince or Wizard morph (I'd assume Wizard) If that was confusing, just tell me and I can try explaining in a different way
